2016 Guard D’Marcus Simonds Gets an Offer

Coach Ollie, accompanied by Karl Hobbs, was most likely not planning on offering anybody today. He and assistant coach Hobbs were going to check in on their 2014 commit Rakim Lubin and to evaluate Simonds. However, after seeing Simonds have 29 points and 14 rebounds coach Ollie was impressed enough to offer him on the spot after the game.

Here’s how the offer went down, “Kevin Ollie [was the coach that told me] and he said I played a good game and that he was offering me a scholarship.” A little while after he broke the news that he was offered he sent out this tweet, “I freaked out when I got the offer,” however, that’s a huge understatement.

“I was shocked. One of the top schools ever had just offered me. I just started running around,” is how he explained his reaction after he was informed by Ollie that he got the offer. Currently he said that Mississippi State is his only other offer.

As for what he knows about UConn right now D’Marcus had this to say, “I know UConn is a powerhouse. I like how much they win and I like Shabazz Napier haha.” He’s one of many people who like Shabazz Napier. It’s easy to like someone who can score at will and lead a team. He can also hit a few clutch shots here and there too.

The 6’4″ combo guard has been playing really well all season long. He and teammate Rakim Lubin have provided their high school, Buford, with a phenomenal duo who have led their team to a current eleven game winning streak and a 17-5 record overall this season. Simonds describes his game like former UConn Husky, and now NBA player, Rudy Gay.

D’Marcus Simonds now joins the list of class of 2016 recruits to have recieved an offer from UConn. With that being said and him being teammates with future husky Rakim Lubin it’s safe to say that UConn will be involved in his recruitment for a long time.
