2016 SF Is Planning On Visiting UConn
|Jackson is a 6’8″ 212lbs. small forward who attends Saint John Bosco High School in California. He is teammates with future husky Daniel Hamilton and fellow UConn target 2015 point guard Tyler Dorsey. Despite being teammates with Hamilton right now Jackson said that he has never really been approached by Daniel to talk to him about UConn.
Despite that, Vance Jackson still knows quite about UConn. Some of the things that stick out to him right now are, “The basketball tradition, the environment seems like a real cool place to play in, and I like the coaches,” he explained. The environment in Storrs is what sold Daniel Hamilton on committing to UConn. Possibly in a couple of years the same could happen to Jackson, one of the few players in his class to have an offer from UConn.
Vance initially said that he likes the coaches here at UConn so I asked a little more. He then said this about his relationship with the staff, “It’s real, real good.” That’s another thing that could help UConn in the long run with the elite small forward who continually gets it done on the court.
“Scoring, dribbling, and my [basketball] IQ,” are what he listed as his major strengths on the court, and he’s not the only one who sees his strengths. “Vance Jackson is a terrific shooter off the catch,” and “The City of Palms 3 point shootout is about to start. Too many shooters but my favorite is St. John Bosco 2016 Vance Jackson,” are two statement made by two respected high school basketball analysts from this past week. He clearly is a top level talent that is starting to garner top level interest and offers.
He currently has offers from Arizona, Washington, and Arizona State in addition to his UConn offer. He is also receiving interest from USC, UCLA, and Kansas. He has already unofficially visited UCLA and told me that he is planning on visiting UConn in January. If it does happen it will be when he is on the east coast for the HoopHall Classic. His team is one of the many elite teams that were invited to play at the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
As for what Jackson wants his college coach to be like he mentioned, “[I want someone that will] help me elevate my game to another level, someone I can trust like a father and will help me become a man.” He also said that he wants his parents to feel comfortable about where he will play in college. I also asked if distance from home will be a factor in his decision and he gave a somewhat indecisive answer, “Kinda, not really.”
Vance Jackson’s recruitment will certainly pick up and be different from where it currently is when he sits down and decides on where he will go. However, with UConn offering him so early it’s highly likely they will stay in the picture for a while. If he does visit UConn in January I will try and catch up with him then and get a reaction from him.
