Youtube TV and UCONN vs. Louisville on Nov. 4th

I've been thinking about coughing up the $29.99 monthly fee for ESPN+, just for this month (We're going to the South Florida game., so we don't need it for that game). We have You Tube TV and also are thinking about Hulu, but this seems easier, and YouTube carries all the other channels that are broadcasting games this year (until the NCAA's, and they had better have reached a resolution by then).

I'll be the first to admit that $30 for one game seems like gouging, but we really want to see the season's first game.

Pretty sure that there is, or at least was, a cheaper Disney+/ESPN plus bundle.

Edit: just checked. The price for the Disney+/ESPN+ bundle is $29.99 now.
 
Did not want to Fudd around and find out. Took the 3 - month discounted rate on Hulu+live and cancelled YTTV. Prefer to watch the games over picking sides on the streaming battles. In the end, they charge about the same for similar offerings.

Unless YTTV has changed, about the only thing I liked about Hulu Live TV over YTTV when we switched was the unlimited DVR capability. But this has it's drawbacks because the recordings are only kept for nine months. Which means most of last season's games are going to be unavailable before New Year's. Oh well, at least I have most of them in a YouTube Playlist.
Now, if I could see the availability of the Ohio State game on the Peacock app.

I considered FUBU last year but after reading the fine print I saw a huge gorcha and decided against it. I can't remember what that was I'll check and get back to you just read it carefully.
 
If thinking about HULU a quick note. If recording a game/program it will not be available for viewing until the completion of the event. That bit me last week when I watched the UConn game and recorded the football game. I tried to watch the football game but could not until after all the 1:00 games ended. HULU for me is always at least 12 seconds behind the live game and even though I pay a small fortune to get it without ads they play 3 minutes of non-skippable ads ads before you can watch any live content. If you attempt to skip one of those ads it then totally resets to the beginning of that 3 minutes of torture.

That's not true. I've had Hulu for 2 years and that never happened to me. On some channels though, you can't FF through the commercials if the game is still playing.
 
If Youtube TV comes through with the promised $20 reduction, I might keep it and pick up ESPN on the side. I have not made up my mind. I hate to leave YTT because I like it. However, if they don't give me the $20 reduction, I am gone.

So you are calling me a liar because your experience differs from mine? I swear in the long past I could also do this but could confuse the experience with what I had with Direct TV where I had a box. I have the $99 current version of Hulu without ads. This was the second time the reported problems happened in the last 3 weeks with ZERO no contradicting experience. Glad your works for you if it does. I had 3 other people visit so that we could watch the UConn game directly watching the Bills game as soon as it was over before we found out the score. Turned on Hulu, went to My Stuff>Recordings>Buffalo Bills and tried to play the recording. It threw and error. Tried this several times. Went to live tv and tried to back it up but it would not go before I had just logged in which was not a surprise. Did all the appropriate steps to correct the situation like powering off, etc to no avail. Each time when I got the video back on it was still locked into the frustrating 3 minute ad loop followed by the same unable to play error until exactly 4:30pm when it suddenly worked as expected. Oh and I was never able to even try to fast forward through the ads while the game was in progress due to the error.

I contacted Hulu and just got their reply:
You cannot watch a recording of a football game from the beginning until the game has concluded due to
licensing restrictions and technical limitations related to the broadcast rights.

Don’t buy the bundle. I’ve had it for a while and didn’t have issues watching games before (well I had YouTubetv login as well). But now I can’t watch any games on ESPN, through the bundle. I tried to find the NC game, but couldn’t find the ACC network anywhere on the apps. Then I just tried to watch the Baylor- Duke game and ESPN+ is saying I have to have an ESPN subscription. Which has got to be the dumbest thing ever. I’m so p*ssed

You're telling everyone on this board that this happens when you have HULU. That is not the truth. I am watching the Duke/Baylor game right now that I'm recording and it's not over yet. No problem starting the game from the beginning and FFing thru the commercials.

Fubu does not have the Turner networks. TNT,TBS, TRUTv so that knocks out the Men’s March Madness Tournament. There are also a few regular season games on those networks.

We looked at all the games between UConn men's and women, plus the college football playoffs, Women's FF and decided to hold our noses and signed up for ESPN. At $29.99/mo + tax it's under $200 for 6 months. That's 4 lunches in a restaurant. I can't take it with me, and it makes the winter a lot more tolerable.

You can get 30 free days of Hulu Live+, so there's no risk in signing up for Hulu now. Sign up on or before Nov. 4 to get both ESPN games during the 30-day free offer (for both new and former subscribers). The South Fla. game is on Dec. 2. Good luck.

Today’s game is on Espn
 
quit Youtube TV last night...signed up for Hulu plus live TV. $65/mo for 1st three months.
It includes ESPN+ so I watched the men last night.

Just an idea going forward. What if you logged into Hulu and click on the Connecticut game when it first started? If you then switched to another game, wouldn't that effectively start the timer on the Connecticut game so when you came back to it, you could click start over?

For what it's worth, I hit start over on content that I haven't been watching frequently and haven't seen the problem you've seen, but it may be because it wasn't live sports content. I have seen the issue you're talking about with watching a recording before the recording is completed. On the plus side, though, if you wait until it is completed, then you can fast forward through all the commercials.

Question for you: What benefit does the commercial free version of Hulu live give you? You're still going to be watching commercials on broadcast television, correct? I guess the answer is that it allows you commercial free viewing for on-demand choices on Hulu live.
