I hate gratuitous use of "man up" to explain deficiencies. Sure, you "man up" to take a charge or play thru discomfort. But your use of it is like telling Mahaney to "man up" and learn how to play in the Big East.

The thing I love about Pitino's post-game is his talking about how he and his staff knows his team stinks at 3 point shooting. So he has them shooting what analytically seems a dumb idea - taking long jumpers inside the 3 point arc. That's an adjustment to deftly employing what you have to work with.

IOW, if we're 2/3rds into the season and guys can't execute man-to-man vs certain teams, do something else. It's not about balls, it's about brains.

DH needs to abandon his offensive schemes. He doesn't have the Newtons, the Cams, the Sanogos who can create a shot with time running out. Too many times UConn is scrambling out beyond the arc without the ball in position for a decent shot . . . 7, 6, 5, 4 . . . turnover or hail Mary. Gotta make a lane or create space much sooner.

We need a new approach and strategy from Hurley and the coaching staff. It may not exist I understand but we are on the verge of mediocrity. That may be the way it ends this year but I’d like to see Hurley try something. He gets paid big to come up with that.

There’s changes Hurley can make to his man defense that can help. I don’t like to question his defensive philosophies and principles because he’s truly the best in the country with it.

But the way we play is kind of quirky and pretty conservative.

Clearly, it's the turnovers. Against MU we shot the lights out to overcome it. Against STJ, we didn't. The boneheaded mistakes and even the subpar on-ball defense were on par with past games. The turnovers are what's been losing games. StJ looks like a legit second weekend team as do MU, Creighton. We are 6-8 fewer turnovers from blowing them all out, which in the grand scheme gives us a shot at a deep run if we can just take care of the ball.

Wouldn't hurt if AK could hit a shot. Even the early foul trouble had gotten better. It's the dumb turnovers.

I'm sad to write this, but, I have a big concern that they won't threepeat. The hype is real. As are my expectations.

I had my doubts about a 3peat before the season started. Of as a UCONN fan I wanted and want it but then there is reality.There is the possibility but reality says consider the lower probability of a 3 peat for any team.

Missing jumpers, even when wide open. Missing chippies. Can’t inbound the ball. Is Hurley beating them up to hard in practice or is he not beating them up enough? Even foul shooting hasn’t been too good. Karaban’s virus has infected the whole team.

Centers ain’t the problem. Reed had 15 boards and played virtually all the minutes.

He is not the starting center. Not to pick on anyone but no progress has been made at that position by the starter. That he only plays limited minutes says it all.
