Lots of talk around here in Cincinnati about going out to get Youkilis. Scott Rolen appears like his career has come to an abrupt halt. He hasn't been able to recover from a seriously shoulder injury and is back on the DL.

The Reds have the prospects and are probably buyers by the deadline. They need a 3B and someone who can bat between Joey Votto and Jay Bruce (both lefties). Youk said that he'd like to retire in Cincinnati. Do not be surprised if this is where he ends up by July...

Youk's problem is that he can't stay healthy playing 3B. He would be a good pickup if they play him at 1B.

If Theo were still GM, Youk would be gone this year: free agent to be, middle-aged, probably going to start trending downward, young replacement already on team. Not sure what Cherington's plan is.

There is a lot to like about Middlebrooks and I hope he continues to hit. But one thing that worries me about both he and Sweeney is their strikeout to walk ratio. Neither one seems to have much plate discipline. But that could change.

Youk might be a good pickup for Cincinnati. He is still the Greek God of walks.
