Girls Just Want To Have Fun: By Cyndi Lauper, originally by Robert Hazard

Perfect example of a song I had absolutely no idea that the well known version wasn't the original artist.

Woodstock - Matthews Southern Comfort.

Great take on the Joni Mitchell original:

Traditional song, released by Kingston Trio in 1959. Made famous by the Beach Boys.

On a previous 'cover' music thread someone posted this version of Sloop John B and I thought it was excellent.
If I knew who linked it I would give them the credit.

Yeah, that was me, on a thread entitled "Young people sing old songs." Maybe we can do that again this summer. There are so many excellent young performers on Youtube. I am envious.

Just recently heard this (mostly) acapella version of Black Velvet. Really liked it. Never realized the song was a tribute to Elvis. ( turn captions on )

Another Sina - Victoria K cover - Black Velvet. If I remember correctly Victoria K is only 13 at the time that this was done.

A couple years ago Elton John and Miley Cyrus participated in Metallica's "Blacklist" project with a great rendition of "Nothing Else Matters".
Very recently Elton John was honored with the Gershwin Prize and Metallica performed Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding at that ceremony.
I wasn't listening to much Metallica 'back in the day', but since the Blacklist compilation I'm paying them more attention.

Same with Miley Cyrus; her antics a few years ago didn't impress me but I really like her in Nothing Else Matters.
