This isn't a good team.

Three seniors. Two are so inconsistent it's maddening. Purvis and Brimah suck some games, are average some games and good some games. Of course this kills a team when a coach has no idea what level of productivity he will get from two if his starters.
Third senior seems to be coming in to his own and giving respectable numbers.

A freshman forward who is starting to play at an above average D1 level.

A Soph PG who has talent and is learning where and when to take the lead and when to be the conductor.

So, five starters two of whom are inconsistent, which affects the Adams' performance since his performance hinges on how well Bro.ab and Purvis play. Two starters, Jackson and Facey who seem to be finding their roles and providing consistent numbers.

Off the bench it's three players; o ly Vital has shown the ability to play 20 min.

Season outlook is brighter than three weeks ago and there's rational reasoning for optimism next year. But this year? Temper expectations.

The hope comes in the form of those three players - Facey, Jackson and Adams. All they really need to add are two or three more things.
1. Brimah to stay on the floor and defend inside like he can, . Force wild shots on drives and post ups, and stay out of foul trouble
2. Purvis to avoid compounding mistakes. No college player is perfect, so don't try hero plays like forced threes and out of control drives just because you stepped out of bounds on the last possession
3. 10-15 productive minutes each from Durham and Enoch. Or at least not damaging minutes.

You can win an awful lot of games with a lead guard, small forward and power forward who can all hit from outside and get to the hoop provided you can minimize mistakes and play solid defense. Oh, and at least break even on the boards.

My whole point was that your two or three that need adding are already finished products. And the finish product is inconsistency.

Could the team catch lightning in a bottle and have birth Brimah and Purvis play well for the next 8 weeks? Yes. But there isn't anything in the past 3 years to suggest either one can play well for that long, nevermind both of them.

There is a significant difference between Brimah and Purvis. Most of the criticism leveled at Brimah is that he is Not on the court enough. Most of the criticism on Purvis is that he IS on the court too much.

Yes, they have lost 5 games by a total of 15 points. Maybe under Calhoun, if he were in the situation in an alternate universe, they would be 11-6 or even 12-5. But for sure this would not be a strong year, even for Calhoun, IMO. Any way, under Ollie it feels like Uconn is losing a lot of their games by 3 points or less, Uconn has not been a good close-game team these past few years.

It makes sense. Outside of the Cincy game in last seasons AAC tournament, I seriously cannot remember many times when we won games that went down to the wire the past few seasons. I do remember us blowing a couple games to Temple, Cincy and even Memphis down the stretch. I think this simply comes down to not having that one guy who could take over the game like Kemba or Shabazz.
