From the Courant a few days ago:
Hannah DeBalsi is now a junior at Staples High. She holds the national record for the mile for freshmen
and sophs. Last year as a soph she finished second in the National Cross Country championships..the winner was
a senior now running at Penn State. This year she will be running in the regionals at Van Cortland in NYC in late November and hopefully in the nationals in early December in San Diego.
She is under 10 minutes for the 2 mile race.
This is huge stuff in high school track and high school cross-country. I assume every elite track program is after her bigtime. I wonder if she is considering UConn at all. Several years ago a blue chip runner from Glastonbury...Lindsey Crevoiserat [sp?]...selected UConn but then a coach left and she transferred to track power Oregon. She might be a senior by now.
Anyway: best of luck to Hannah in her big races this year...and next. She undoubtedly will be invited
to some all-star type meets in the late spring...a chance to test herself against the best in the land.
Hey...take down the national high school mile record before you embark on the college level.
