Yesterday Massey listed the UConn - Toronto game. Today the score disappeared.
Might be because it doesn't count on your "official" record.Yesterday Massey listed the UConn - Toronto game. Today the score disappeared.

It was an exhibition for TMU, but a real game for UConn. UConn's stats will count and the Huskies started the day yesterday 8-3 and ended it 9-3. The only quirk with this game is that it won't be included in the NET calc, but in all other ways it was just like any other regular season game on the schedule.Might be because it doesn't count on your "official" record.
They won't. Until UConn shows it can beat top 10 teams, where they are ranked is where they will likely stay until teams ahead of them start losing some games.Anyone out there think that the media members who rank the teams for the AP poll will treat this game like any other regular season game?

Yet according to Massey LSU has no Top 10 wins, one Top 25 win and one Top 25 loss. They also have according to Massey beat 4 teams that would be on the same caliber as TMU:They won't. You should send this to the people that vote on the polls - maybe they will listen and logic will rule the day?Yet according to Massey LSU has no Top 10 wins, one Top 25 win and one Top 25 loss. They also have according to Massey beat 4 teams that would be on the same caliber as TMU:
Queens NC who is ranked #357 112-55
MS Valley St is ranked #350 109-47
TX Southern is ranked #344 106-47
McNeese St is ranked #354 133-44
LSU is ranked #7 and #6 in the Top 25, yet has only played two teams that is or have been ranked in the Top 25, while UConn is ranked #17 while playing six teams that is or have been ranked in the Top 25. LSU has gone 1-1 against Colorado on a neutral court, lost 92-78 and VA Tech at home, won 82-64. UConn has gone 3-3 with their 3 losses being away or on a neutral court, NC St (A) 92-81, UCLA (N) 78-67, and Texas (A) 80-68. Their wins are Maryland (H) 80-48, NC (N) 76-64, and Louisville (H) 86-62.
UConn currently has an SoS of #1 while LSU has an SoS of #95, which will most likely go to 100+ in tomorrow's Massey ratings after their win against #299 Coppin St 80-48. UConn has played or will play only one team Out of Conference that is rated or would be rated 200+ or more and that is TMU which I would put in the 300+ area. They will also be playing Xavier in Conference play who is currently rated #276. While LSU has played or will have played 10 teams that are rated 200+ or more in Out of Conference play, they have none in Conference.
UConn should also get a boost off of Ball State's win against Georgia today 51-50, Georgia is rated by Massey #48 while Ball State is #73.
Look at Texas! Two Quad 1 wins and ZERo quad 2 wins. Everything else has been Quad 3s and 4s! Compare Texas to GonzagaYet according to Massey LSU has no Top 10 wins, one Top 25 win and one Top 25 loss. They also have according to Massey beat 4 teams that would be on the same caliber as TMU:

You are ( more or less) correct for the first ten games. That problem is supposed to be mostly cured by the tenth game ( right about now.)It seems to me that Massey doesn’t reset its rating to begin each new season. Ratings carry over from previous year and then are affected by in-season play.
Only for the first ten games, then everything is reset after that.It seems to me that Massey doesn’t reset its rating to begin each new season. Ratings carry over from previous year and then are affected by in-season play.

The number of games it takes for the anchoring bias to fully disappear from Massey's ratings is not specified. There is no "reset"; the bias diminishes by what's known as "exponential decay", a fancy statistical term for a gradual decrease toward zero by an exponential rate.Only for the first ten games, then everything is reset after that.
Just a geeky footnote on the level of TMU compared to the lowest rung of D1 teams:UConn currently has an SoS of #1 while LSU has an SoS of #95, which will most likely go to 100+ in tomorrow's Massey ratings after their win against #299 Coppin St 80-48. That is true, but by the 10th game the previous season is no longer a factor. It seems to me that Massey doesn’t reset its rating to begin each new season. Ratings carry over from previous year and then are affected by in-season play.
I often look at cross division ratings in the Football section but never in the basketball section. Thanks for the reminder.Just a geeky footnote on the level of TMU compared to the lowest rung of D1 teams:
Massey's strength rating is calculated across all divisions of college basketball, which allows us to gain some perspective on how teams from different divisions compare. For example, the top team in D2 (Southern Nazarene) ranks #149 across all divisions, which is better than more than half of D1 teams.
Toronto Metropolitan ranks #15 out of the 48 teams in U-Sports (Canada), but its overall ranking across all divisions is #1170. McNeese, by comparison, is in the bottom 10 of D1 but is #564 overall. The lowest-ranking D1 team (Chicago State) is #704 overall.
Not just some D2 teams; almost all.So Toronto Metropolitan is substantially worse than the bottom teams in Division I (and some teams in Division 2)? That makes sense from what I saw Wednesday.
Since we’re only talking in hypotheticals, i’ll take that bet.UConn is the best team without a post player. Unfortunately that is a huge task when it comes to beating the top teams because they also have good guards. UConn is playing good basketball right now but if the season started over today I don't think their record would be any better than it is now.
Am I mistaken or wasn't TMU 10-0 going into the UConn game? If true, holy cow, I cannot conceive of the quality of those other 10 teams.Just a geeky footnote on the level of TMU compared to the lowest rung of D1 teams:
