I've made it no secret on other forums that I have a man crush on Yawin, kid is a beast linebacker and with some of your defensive playmakers leaving for the NFL, the time is now for him to put up some monster stats.

From day one I don't think I've seen someone mention Yawin without using the word "beast". If the NFL is excited for Sio, they're going to wet their pants when they find out about Yawin.

Chances are they already know!! This kid has been better than advertised and I think was pretty well thought of coming in. Hope he can get healthy and stay healthy because Hughes will be turning him loose. Love his game!

If he stays healthy he will be the best LB to ever where a UCONN uniform and this will be his last season with us.

Makes it look absolutely effortless out there. We really need some of the other guys to fill the shoes of Sio and Jory who were terrific in their own right.

Yet another example of where the recruiting sites miss be a mile......

He was the best defensive player on the field last year, with 4 players on the roster that will be playing on Sunday's next year.

I love how he isn't scared to stand up an O Lineman, instead of trying to run around him. He maintains his responsibilities. He plays ILB, so that might mean he won't get drafted until later, but I think he would be an awesome 3-4 OLB. He can set the edge with his run stopping ability and is an underrated pass rusher.

Another article (w/ detailed analysis) on YS:

http://withthefirstpick.com/2013/07...on-breakdown-yawin-smallwood-ilb-connecticut/

>>Smallwood is a tremendous run defender and with another year developing could make a huge impact for a team in that respect as a 2-down specialist. Despite the fact he only appears ready to play the run, he does it at a high enough level that he should still go in the top 100. If he can improve and become a more viable option against the pass, he should be able to secure himself a spot in the first two rounds of the NFL draft if he opts to declare.<<
