6k ain't enough so it would have to be expanded. I remember Jacobs asked about expansion to AAA and he was told No by the same guy that gave millions to that Felon for Dillon. Forgot his name, but he got fired by bronin. Him and Solomon were in kahoots and Solomon only has an affiliate agreement with Rockies for 1-2 years so maybe something can happen if providence/Pawtucket doesn't work out. An actual sox/yanks AAA rivalry in Hartford would be sweet.

You guys /gals should all go support the Danbury Westerners this summer. Hint, hint.

The Danbury FHL team's attendance dropped from 1648 a game in 2014-15 to 743 in 2015-16, just because they went from the Whalers to the Titans.

It seats over 9,000. 6,000 chair backs, 3,000 more through suites, picnic seating, standing room etc.

Connecticut picked the wrong stock.

Minor League baseball in Hartford. Come on. Baseball is a slow and dying game.

Soccer is the stock to buy right now. Look at the soccer only stadiums being built. They are beautiful and full of passionate fans. MLS should have been the goal, not baseball.

Not sure on the dimensions of the field, but a few NASL and USL teams share stadiums with minor league baseball, a few others have taken over stadiums for now defunct baseball teams. That might be another way to get more use out of that money pit.

I wish it was a AAA park instead of AA. Luccihino(Red Sox) would be way better at development around the park than this centerplan/DoNo.

Yeah, their project in Providence is going swimmingly...

.-.
Hartford would be wise to jump on the Paw Sox. Can we just call them something other than the Red Sox? Like the Yard Goats??

Yeah, their project in Providence is going swimmingly...

Yea, but luccichino wanted providence to pay nearly all of it. There was land issues and such. Hartford already is paying for DD park. All he has to do is swoop in and bam, free ball park.

People were complaining about the Yard Goats moniker?

The Double-A Binghamton Mets will rebrand themselves next season, dropping "Mets" as their nickname. The organization identified six finalists for the new name on Tuesday. Those are: Bullheads, Gobblers, Rocking Horses, Rumble Ponies, Stud Muffins and Timber Jockeys.

Enter Rumble Ponies.

UPDATE: The team has selected "Gobblers" as its new name, and will be relocating to Johnson Vermont. Henceforth, the team is to be referred to as the Johnson Gobblers.

I could be wrong, and probably am, but when news first broke about Hartford building a stadium, I thought the original scheme they "sold" was a 9,000 seat AAA worthy facility. Then after the project was approved it some how was scaled down to 6,000 and AA.

Eh, he's kind of right, but this is much more on the city than on the developer. You can't be submitting huge change orders after the deadline and then complain that they missed the deadline. The town screwed this up from the start, and if we're being really honest, there are people who should probably be prosecuted. Hartford is going to be defending itself in a lawsuit shortly, and it's definitely going to lose. Luke Bronin was the worst possible mayor to oversee this because he's such an arrogant, petty jerk.

Jacobs completely nailed it. Everyone involved here is at fault, the city, the developer, and everyone who allowed this to happen as it did. How does anyone think an XL renovation, Rentschler expansion, or new hockey arena will get any support from the public after this fiasco? The public rightfully has absolutely no confidence in the city and state to get any of these projects done correctly. This ballpark has been an absolute disaster that served little purpose beyond a way for Hartford politicians to pat themselves on the back that they did something to "revitalize" the city without actually putting in place a realistic plan that actually would revitalize the city.

Ever tried to watch a soccer game on tv? Or even in person? Paint drying is more exciting. World soccer fans like it because they were brought up on it and don't know better. Actually the World Cup is watchable. Sometimes. Just because fans showed for an occasional exhibition game means nothing. Minor league baseball is a beautiful sport with tons of things specifically for kids to enjoy besides the game. And at a reasonable price unlike MLB. Do kids go out on the field every half hour in MLS OR MLB? No. I hope both the Goats and the Bees both do well in greater Hartford.

Sports Venue Projects Devour Trust Along With Cash

This one is dated 10/25/15. Middle of article. Jacobs asked if 2k or 3k seats could be added to upgrade to AAA. Solomon said yes, and that should be in jail Thomas Deller said NO. Deller was also in charge of the Dillion mess. He's now fired, but I could see him and his cronies in Hartford govt got kickbacks from both Dillon and the Baseball stadium. Deller didn't even try for AAA cause he probably couldn't have done it behind closed doors and be a "done deal". I've posted this before, but Larry lucchino should buy out Solomon and move Pawtucket to Hartford. He was good at the Yawkeeway development around Fenway. Dunkin donuts is already a major sponsor of the Red Sox. Having a AAA rivalry with sox and Yankees would be sweet in Hartford. Central CT has fans of both and you could attract more CT redsox fans to go to both AAA and majors and by also sorta moving in on Yankee territory

Back to AA park...
What a about that outfit IFG? They were supposed to be in charge of keeping centerplan on budget and on time. How much did we pay them?
They were supposed to be the stadium authority eyes and ears on the timeline.
The courant, the authority, bronin never bring them up. What's up with that?

I counted on the city and the stadium authority to select and work hand-in-hand with the correct developer. Instead a no-bid contract went out to a developer that never built a ballpark before. That alone should have sent off flares shooting into the Asylum Street night.

This. It never ceases to amaze me how often local government makes genuinely horrific decisions that are obviously going to fail.

I think Jeff's right that this maybe the last nail in coffin for the XL renovation.

XL and Rent Expansion? : CRDA/State Project that people want
Dunkin Donuts Park? : City Project no one wanted.
Dillon Stadium? : City Project that people wanted, but corrupt officials ruined it by giving blank checks away to felons with no oversight

Jacobs and Supporters of XL and Rent Expansion have to teach average joe the difference.

Trust me the public does not want 250 million thrown at the XL or any public project, if you think residents in Fairfield County care about the differences between the stadium and XL or want public dollars going into a white elephant they never go to I don't know what to tell you. This article is spot on.

.-.
I think the Rent is a different case. Sure attendance hasn't been great lately, but if we have success we'd be around 38K consistently. If expanding it is a requirement for P5 membership, it would happen in heartbeat because it would make economic sense.

The XL Center, from what I've seen, has virtually no shot a decent ROI. I'd be sad to see it go, as I have a lot great memories there, but if the CRDA wants to save it they need to come up with a business plan that is more than UConn games and wishful thinking.

The article is spot on and I fear that sports projects in Hartford are gone for quite some time.....

What I'm curious about is what is going to happen to UConn basketball in all this? The wolfpack or whatever AHL team plays there will probably leave and whatever....ok....but now what happens to UConn? Do they play all their games in Gampel? I love Gampel but it's not exactly the top of the line building it may have once been....So I think the XL project is a mighty big problem. UConn is a major sports entity in this state and without the XL, I wonder what will happen.

I'd place money on the state keeping the status quo, throwing money at minor repairs just to keep the lights on. Yes that is a recipe for throwing money down the drain but this "transformation" is a pie in the sky dream with this state.

Hartford stealing a successful minor league team from another CT city wasn't something that was worth public financial support. Hartford also has a poor history of building things. It's not a surprise that this has blown up in their face.

The development industry in/around Hartford makes Trump look honest. We are over 15 years into the development at Rentschler, Front Street is underwhelming, the Colt area has been disappointing, etc.
....and Trickory...is honest!!!! Politics this year is going to be very polarizing!
