Yankee's Non-Roster Invitees

The Yankees have invited 44 non-roster players to spring training- that's not counting Mason Williams who's re-habing. That's a total of 84 players in camp! Isn't that a bit excessive? What with that amount and the amount of retired jerseys, some guys will be wearing triple digits on their back. I checked other teams for their invitees, and the next most I saw was the Cubs with 22.
This is beginning to look like one weird season for the Yankees!
