Yahoo calls Ollie a liar.

I mean, all things considered it would be a pretty scummy thing to say that, then leave.

Really?? You're just throwing out names of former UConn players. None of those 4 have ever coached, or necessarily shown a desire to. What a bizarre mindset.

He already said he was joking.

Who knows what KO's career goals are. I feel its a bit wrong to trash him for considering a very very intriguing opportunity, where he would coach some of the best players on the planet. If you were in his shoes what would you do? Personally I would be enticed, especially having achieved so much already on the college level. As a fan I want him back, as a person I could see this as his best opportunity to coach in the league and really make a name for himself... something he wasn't really able to do as a player. the flipside is what is KD's plans? KO isn't ditching storrs to coach mitch mcgary or even lamb, its for durant + westbrook. Both those guys could be wearing a new uniform pretty soon. So much westbrook to LA buzz, and ofcourse the DC thing with durant.

a coaching staff of Rip, Ray and Ben would be interesting, maybe throw in Okafor as the big man coach.
Why stop there?

You gotta think KEA for strength and conditioning coach.

Maybe Uncle Cliffy as spiritual counselor.

Toraino as academic counselor.

Josh Nochimson handling public relations.

Tate George, fundraising of course.

Since sarcasm is hard to determine over the internet, and since not everyone reads through all the posts, hopefully he will utilize the emoticons in the future!

"spiritual counselor" , almost spit my coffee out

Thats why i dont think he would go. Its really high risk. If they dont compete as well as expected with Ollie i can become his fault. Ollie could get fired in an attempt to get KD and Westbrook to stay. even if they didnt fire him he'd be stuck there with lessor talent and not competing for a championship.

On the flipside he can enjoy a lot more consistency and job security staying at Uconn. If he loves coaching, i think Uconn is the place. Or he oculd go pro, be out in a year and then coaching where? Not back at Uconn.

I have a feeling KO would be an even better pro coach than college coach, thats what makes him such a gem for uconn. your playbook opens up in the league, much more variety and I think KO is really intrigued by that. I'm just doing my best to prepare for the worst ha. praying he stays, dark days lie ahead if not

Every time someone suggests a former great player with no coaching qualifications, I want to slap them through the screen. No, you aren't the first person to suggest Ray Allen as head coach. The reason you don't see it on this page is because it's a really stupid idea.

That and he's stated that once his career is over, he wants to get into acting.

kevin durant will be my least liked player ever, in any sport if ollie leaves

If ollie stays, are we going to have to deal with the every year?! Seems like a conspiracy against uconn!:eek:

Yea i agree that he would be a very good pro coach personally. I still cant see him leaving though. I will be shocked and disappointed if he leaves. id understand but id be really disappointed.

If he turned down the Lakers, I'd be surprised to see him go with the Thunder. He's got roots there, it's a good situation right now - but the Lakers is a pinnacle kind of job.

I just don't see him going. If he does, it'll likely be Calhoun for a year before they shop for an external hire.

I know how Ollie feels. Every time one of the Kadasians breaks up with some guy, my name is the first one tossed out there. Then there are all the denials. People calling me a liar. It gets to you after a while.

Ten minutes later.

@AdamZagoria: Source: Kevin Ollie is 'only listening to OKC and any coach would.'
And in response to that, some Marquette homer says he's only listening because he's interested.

If people don't think that this is being stirred up by people who are trying to kill our recruiting, they are very ignorant imo.

That's what I'm saying! Two years in a row?

If Ollie does in fact bolt, hope he doesn't, imagine a scenario where Calhoun comes back for a season and rip hamilton is hired as lead assistant and groomed over the summer and course of the season to take the long term HC job.
I would not want this to happen! Sorry!

And what makes you think Rip is cut out for coaching? Is it just because he played in the NBA for a long time? Not trying to be confrontational, but not every former player necessarily makes a good coach. How is his knowledge of strategy? Teaching fundamentals? Interacting with young people?
There's a 5+ page thread from a week or so ago on how Ray is not a people person and likes to keep to himself. He simply doesn't have the personality to be a head coach working intensively with 13 student-athletes, 3 assistants, and charismatically trying to convince dozens of high schoolers across the country to play for UCONN.

He's still a legend, perhaps the best to ever wear the UCONN uniform, and he will always be well-respected. But being a good coach doesn't automatically come with that.

Ray is a cool guy and i spent much time around him as well as Rip. Rip is def a people guy but I don't feel head coach for Uconn at this stage. Ray is a def no no.

I would hate for Ollie to go but he has future plans I am sure. i had a 5 year plan that met me in 3 years. People were not happy but I knew what I wanted. I love Uconn and Ollie but if he so happoens to leave, I wish him the best and we move on.

I think it's pretty obvious that OKC already talked to Ollie this morning or in the past 24-48 hours - then he put out his statement saying he has no plans to leave and OKC proceeded to fire Brooks within hours of that statement and likely moved onto plan B (Donovan), C (going back to Ollie) or D (something else).

Now did Ollie first shoot them down because he genuinely isn't interested? Was it because they didn't offer him much since they would already have to pay Ollie, Brooks AND a hefty buyout? who knows.

Whatever wiggle room Ollie left in his statement I would think is for something more out-of-the-blue than OKC just upping their offer.

Espn was saying ollie and Donovan but also hoiberg, tibs, or high profile assistants in the nba
