"Those struggles have raised the question whether Ollie’s job could be in jeopardy at the end of the season. UConn would owe him $600,000 if it fired him before his contract expires in 2021, but school administrators will have to at least consider the option with attendance dwindling and the program trending in the wrong direction."

Lmao.

Managed to excuse Ollie for the transfers and de-commitment, as if he didn't have any role in that whatsoever. Fair article otherwise.

Edit:
$600,000??? okay sure.

$600,00 all we would owe him? That makes no sense with what has been reported here.

Pretty fair article. Nothing we already knew, however. And the 600K figure, yeah, calling BS on that.
Wish it were so. Whaler and August probably have that under their couch cushions.

Pretty sure the language in the contract has it around $10M.

If it was only $600K it wouldn't even be a discussion. He'd be gone after we get bounced in the AAC Tourney.

Pretty fair article. Other than injuries, all other issues are Ollie's responsibility.
Even Ollie admitted that the Ship is sinking.
Go try to recruit players to a sinking ship.

Yahoo was one of the leaders of the the anti UConn press around the APR
Debactacle
Who did Calhoun anger that made them hate us so much or isn’t thee a Yahoo/ Calipari connection.
I believe they already wrote an obit on the program in 2012.
Just remembered the guys that kick you when your down nothing is better than revenge.
Nova on the other hand saw no reason to embarrass an undermanned team .
That’s a class move.

Dan Wetzel used to write for them. He's the one that broke the Nate Miles recruitment story that led to that particular NCAA witch hunt. Wetzel was attending UMASS when Calipari was there. He's Calipari's media attack dog. Calhoun and Calipari have a rather long acrimonious history dating back to the Marcus Canby recruitment and before.

I know it’s going to be a shock, but yes we know more about the contract than this writer.

We actually have already had this conversation a half dozen times.

Claim is made it’s $600k. Then someone reposts the contract and it’s in plain English it’s $600k plus $9MM.

The Athletic Department is playing opossum at this point but even Trantolo & Trantolo couldn’t get UConn off the hook for the
buy out.

The contract is online. The buyout for this year is 10M. After next year it goes down to 6.1M

Except for the buyout error, the article hit the major points well enough, and many Comments were as stinging as some we find here.
That said, Ollie made reference to what happens with rats & scavengers when there's a feeling that a ship is sinking. He did not claim that feeling as his own, although he could have made it clearer that remaining on the ship was for reasons in addition to neither being rats nor scavengers. It was a dubious comment but there's no need to make it worse

How much would Ollie make as an NBA assistant? How much is it worth to him not to be fired and have stories leaked? We can strike a deal for less. Then, when you figure in that Hurley will get paid less, the school's total expense is not that much more. It can be done. I didn't look at the details but his 5 year contract was worth 17.9 mill. 3 years of that is 10.74 mill. If we can strike a deal for half (good for both sides), we are looking at 5.37 mill. Hurley is paid 1.1 mill today. If we double that, he would get 2.2 mill or 6.6 mill over the next three years. 6.6+5.37=11.97 mill. The real marginal cost of this switch is 11.97-10.74=1.17 mill. Worth!

A honorable man would do what's right.
