my suggestions were clearly qualified based on how they expect to travel, and if they want to walk to everything.
Parkville market is awesome. I’m glad they’re expanding. In and of itself it’s not a reason to stay in Hartford. You suggested they stay in downtown Hartford. Parkville ain’t downtown. Neither is Dillon. Downtown is virtually dead on a Saturday night.

@DCPoke
If you really want the feel of New England, it’s right here in this thread. A bunch of people making assumptions about you and your trip, telling other people their suggestions are crap, while not knowing anything about you, what you want to see, what interests you, and what you want to get out of the visit.

Welcome to the elitist, land of the know-it-alls. Where the state motto is “I’m right, everyone who disagrees is an idiot.”

Enjoy your stay.
Not in my backyard you don’t.

If you are going to fact-check someone, do it honestly please. I also mentioned that the downtown music venues will be open again. In fact, Robert Cray and Justin Hayward are both playing downtown that weekend.

Again, he asked about accommodations, dining, and tailgating.

And you suggest he stay downtown so they can go to a a soccer game or music concerts, then (since we are fact-checking "honestly") in a reply to me and not the OP, you suggest Parkville Market for dining.

The tailgating advice you offered was top-notch as well, this part was my favorite: "To specifically address the tailgating: You can drive yourself in and set-up at your car." I personally hate it when I get to a new venue and there's nobody there to drive me in and set up at their car.

What are the targeted interests of @DCPoke and friends? Your responses may prompt additional helpful responses. On the way to/fro CT, you may want to visit New Haven for the nation's best apizza.

Down the road, I hope a return game in Laramie is scheduled to further encourage visiting Wyoming. One of 4 states remaining to visit.
I hope the two school's ADs would work something out, but given the circumstances of how this game came together I'm not too hopeful. Also, because games are scheduled years in advance, who knows when they'll be room on either school's scheduled

That’s all fine, but if you want a nice hotel, good food, great pizza slices, bars, stores, bagels, coffee, movie theatre, all walkable and a piece of cake ride to the game, just stay in West Hartford. They can go to the coast, the Northwest Hills, the casinos etc. when the game is over and they leave the area. You can call WeHa fake New England if you want, but prosperity doesn’t mean fake. It usually means comfortable.

I sure hope I don’t go to a Wyoming football board someday and ask for travel adivice. If those guys are like some of you, they’ll send me to a Motel 6 fifty miles outside Cheyenne because that’s where real cowboys stay.
Motel 6? Real cowboys roll out the bed roll and sleep on the ground.

.-.
That's a long ride! Too bad it's a 1pm start.
If @DCPoke and company are Wyoming natives, not such a long ride and enables an easier southern return than 95. Could be worse, driving on to Buffalo, Wyoming's a legit long ride. I jest, but Bills' tickets won't come cheap.

A lot of in-state Wyoming fans make a similar drive to get to Laramie for home games. An old joke: What is a 75-mile drive in Wyoming? A trip to 7-11for Slushies.

But the 1pm Buf start means you have to start driving after the game or 5 in the morning was what I'm sayin. Both suboptimal choice, imo.

Damn, my friends decided that going to Iceland was better than going to the game. Geysers, and Vikings. Pfft. So I'm still coming to the Nutmeg state. I'll join a couple of hundred or more Wyoming fans. We travel pretty well for as small the state's population is (580,000). There's also a fairly sizeable ex pat number like myself spread all over the country.

Bummer.

You do realize at some stadiums you have to park remotely and take a bus or other mass transportation to the stadium or walk well over a mile.
So, a comment saying you can drive yourself up to the stadium and set up tailgating on site is a valid check in the box for the Rent.
UConn actually has some of the best parking accomodations for college football in terms of personal vehicle access near the stadium for any fan and not just those stroking a big check for the privilege of parking near the stadium.

If you like music I just went on my Bandsintown app and noticed there are a lot of shows around that time and some around Hartford in New Haven

That is A LOT to try to pack into a week, and I don't really think you'll get any sense for any of those places. I'd just pick 1 and commit...cant really go wrong with any IMO.
You're correct, however, the big reason for making the swing through those states is to add five more states to my "Been to List". By adding those states I'll only have Oregon and Alaska remaining.

I understand your mission. I have 5 to go. (Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii).

I get it. Football road trips are a great way to address other goals such as States visited or awesome sites you wanted to see but wouldn't likely go but for the away game. We used the Boise St game in 2018 to visit South Dakota, which was my last remaining state. Started in Rapid City (Mt Rushmore), drove into WY to see Devils Tower, then over to Jackson Hole. In Idaho we went to Sun Valley before our final stop in Boise--an awesome small city. It was a great trip. Will likely do something similar on way to Clemson.

Worked for BLM and got to explore the Great Divide Basin. Wamsutter. Left a positive lasting impression on me. Then became a Greenie.
I guess I can forgive that; as long as you didn’t go to Colorado State!

A lot indeed, but think about how big a state like Wyoming is alone, or along with its surrounding states. The entire New England area they're traveling probably fits one state... We live in a much faster pace life around these parts than folks that have hung out in those parts.

@DCPoke - Enjoy the ride and sights with your buddies. Safe travels. Lots of nut jobs riding on these roads lately.

Thanks all for the information! I've posted a link to this thread on Go WYO Go Rivals message board. Looking forward to the game. Both teams will be four games into the season, so it should be a heck of a game

You'll have better luck further north, down here they usually don't peak until mid October. Northern New England may be in peak by that time.

Accommodations: If you're looking to walk for meals/entertainment, then Delamar in WH is very nice, and within walking distance of everything you'd need. If you're driving everywhere and just looking for cheapish accommodations there are plenty of places to pick from in East Hartford, Glastonbury, Windsor, Windsor Locks that are convenient. Where you stay really depends on how you're travelling, and what you'd like to do while here. Traffic here is nothing like DC, so I wouldn't be concerned with staying as close to the stadium as possible.

LOTS of food options:
Mexican/Spanish - bartaco, Barcelona
Seafood - Max's Oyster
Burgers - Max's Burger
Mediterranean - Zahara
Steakhouse - Fleming's
Italian - Treva, Bricco
Thai - Blue Elephant

Bars/Drinks:
Vinted (if you're into wine tasting)
The Place 2 Be
World of Beer
Elbow Room

Tailgating:
Highly recommend the parking lot on Silver Lane across from the stadium (Pratt & Whitney owned softball fields), the rules are more lax with respect to tailgating, and the walk is much shorter than the red lot (gameday/non season-pass parking). Address: 544 Silver Ln #568, East Hartford. Also try googling "tailgating at softball fields east hartford ct"
The day care an 1/8 of a mile or so is a goldmine too

116 counties with a population larger than Wyoming

Went from BLM to Forest service in Minturn (Vail). I remember witnessing the conflict at at the Encampment wood choppers ( Real Mangy Moose) but really I am more of a lumberjack. Schooled in NH but worked with many CSU.

Minturn Vail forest service? What do you do while there?

I resided in Carbon county which is likely larger than CT.
I just looked it up for fun. Carbon County is 7964 square miles with a population of 15,885 while CT is 5543 square miles with a population of 3.6 million. Most towns in CT have a higher population than an entire county that is larger than our state. That’s crazy.

Ran a chainsaw crew, worked wild land fires, met my wife, worked at a hotel with ski pass in winter. Glory days for sure.

I did some time in Montana… fun out there, but I don’t regret coming back East. Been to Minturn…skied many of the CO mountains like Vail, BC, etc.

I can now see the van and bongo’s you must have had back then.

No van though, 80’s Ranger with a cap. Slept next to my mtn bike a bit. Juevos rancheros breakfast at the turntable or pitchers of margaritas at the saloon in minturn are unforgettable

I kid. I kid. I know many fine CSU grads though we never stop jawing about our “bitter” rivalry. Wyoming and Colorado A&M (the school’s original name) have been playing each other since the 1890s. Only wars have interrupted the annual game. It’s one of the oldest college rivalries in the western U.S. Here’s a Wikipedia article about the “Border War”.
