WR Skyler Bell passed on chance to play at Michigan to return to UConn and finish what he started

Best FB player in UConn history.

UConn has had two first round selections in the NFL draft:
2009 pick #27 - RB Donald Brown to Indy Colts
2015 pick #27 - DB Byron Jones to Dallas Cowboys

And a handful of 2nd round selections:
2009 - DB Darius Butler, T Will Beatty, LB Cody Brown
2012 - DT Kendall Reyes
2017 - DB Obi Melifonwu

Two UConn WRs drafted:
2010 pick #107 (4th) - Marcus Easley to Buffalo Bills
2015 pick #186 (6th) - Geremy Davis to NY Giants

Not that NFL draft position necessarily means best player in UConn history, but generally the better you do the higher you get drafted. Will be interesting to see where Skyler Bell gets drafted. Tough to compare different players from different positions across different generations, but I think we can all agree he's the best WR in UConn history.

-> The Huskies go to Florida Atlantic University (FAU) for their final regular season contest Saturday with a chance to win nine games for the second consecutive season, and they have an opportunity to validate that they possess one of the best offenses in the country.

That offense is led by Bell, who leads the country in receiving touchdowns (13), is second in receiving yards (1,153) and third in receiving yards per game (104.8). Those numbers, and the impact he has had on the Huskies’ success, have made Bell one of 13 national semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award given annually to the best college receiver. <-

-> He said he returned to Storrs this year to work on his consistency and show everyone that he could be an elite playmaker who could be counted on every single game.

“I feel like the biggest improvement I have made is in my consistency, not only with my hands but with my routes, getting open, being reliable, being a reliable target for Joe knowing that if the play breaks down, he can find me and I will make a play for him,” Bell said. “I want to be our offensive safety blanket. If things aren’t going good, you can find me and I will make something happen.”

His performance has validated his decision to pass up lucrative NIL offers from bigger schools like Michigan to return to UConn for his senior year. He said he came back, because he loved the fact that Mora and the coaching staff believed in him when they brought him out of the transfer portal from Wisconsin two years ago. <-
