A 12, 14, or 16 team version?

Assume 4 P4 opponents and 1 FCS game.

And of course, doomed!

for a 12-team playoff, IMO no, in their eyes 12-0 without going through a gauntlet of a P4 conference schedule or at minimum handily beating your entire G5 slate, is probably a non-starter for the CFP committee. They've made it clear they want their own in, and UConn is not their own. They'd find a way to discredit our wins against the likes of Rice and FAU. And honestly I can't blame them. a 10-2 ACC team that didn't win their conference is likely more deserving than a 12-0 UConn. By virtue of their schedule. In this scenario, though, I think UConn gets a very nice/prestigious bowl invite though.

16 teams changes the game I think - there may be more grace from the P4 conferences to allow an additional cinderella to the party, beyond the most-highly-rated G5 conference champion.

Moot not mute. You mute your tv, spouse or dog. Changing your spouse’s mind with a logical argument is a moot point.

In 2021 Cincinnati made the playoff from the AAC. They were beat down by Bama in a 21 point loss, who eventually lost to Georgia by 15.

I can’t see the committee taking us without a major playoff expansion and a wild season like 2007.

Yes because it would be an AMAZING story: awful to undefeated in one season. They would have Gameday at our last game of the season if we were going undefeated.

No. There is literally not a path for us to the playoff the way it is written

Our game against OU in the Fiesta Bowl was ridiculed non-stop by ESPN who made it their primary reason #1 for having a College Football playoff. I can only assume they will work equally hard (as will thw power conferences) to keep us out of any playoff scenario.

the thought of UConn Football going 12-0 is the definition of mental masturbation. Right now, I just want to see a winning record. I am predicting a record of 7-5 when looking at their schedule.

A 12-0 G5 is probably the highest rated G5 team… and I don’t know how many of the G5s play 4 power conference games. I’d think we’d be in.
agreed - for the record i never said that a 12-0 uconn wouldn't be the best G5 team. I said what I said because my understanding is that the best rated G5 conference champion is the one who gets the cinderella slot in the CFP... emphasis on CONFERENCE.

We as an independent are a special case, based on that definition. would we leapfrog the consensus "best" G5 conf champion?

if i misunderstood the 12-team bracket rules, someone chime in, thx

Well, in his defense, if we lose a game no one is going to want to talk about it anymore.

You do know that Michigan got routed by Georgia 34-11 in a more 1-sided game, right. Interestingly, though the committee didn’t hesitate to invite them in future years. Much like our Fiesta Bowl game, we were undeserving according to some but Virginia Tech who was blown out by Stanford 40-12 just had a bad game.

Probably not an unbeaten champ. But a 2+ loss one, I think we would. 1loss I’m not sure. Would depend on the loss probably

Is it possible? Sure. Will it happen? Absolutely not. Going undefeated and winning the bowl will set up great recruiting and next season quite well though.

Depends how good the schedule as a whole was. Just saying 4 P4 opponents is nearly enough to even make a guess.

My understanding is in the new 12 team playoff the top G5 team gets an autobid. So yes, at 12-0 we would most likely be the top G5 team. I'm sure the opponent would be the #1 overall seed, so it would be a short lived playoff experience. But we'd almost definitely be in.
