That 2001 loss was so terrible for me lol.. I was 12 and cried for days hahaha
I was 38 and remember shedding a few tears myself.

I still feel so sad about the injuries that year and "what could have been"...

2001, my first live UConn game, I was a freshman in high school and sooooo excited to see them in the Final Four. I was so sure they would win, and my parents were awesome enough to get me tickets and take me. I seriously did not want to even attend the final, but I did and sulked the whole time.

And you were still sure at halftime.

We'd be more used to losing so it wouldn't be so shocking:)

Seriously - the injuries to two beloved players that year were devastating. Then to be up so much in the first half without Shea and Svet only to lose in the end as Diana cried inconsolably on the bench . . . unforgettable sadness.

The 2011 loss to ND that ended Maya's Husky career. She deserved better.

The 2001 loss to ND (there's a freakin' pattern here!). We lost the second half by nearly 30?!

Those were 2 NCs that were halfway in the bag but escaped.

Two embarrassing losses:

The silver uniform meltdown against Duke. We can't break the press even once?

The spanking by UNC. They earned and got a standing ovation from the UConn fans. We needed to get more athletic, so we got Renee, Kalana, Tina, Maya, Tiffany, Moriah, et al. That ain't happening again.

4. 2006 Duke- #1 Duke literally begged us to take this game from them but we just didn't have the offense to do it. Only postseason loss in our home state and came 2 days after the men blew it to George Mason also by 2 pts in overtime so it sucked. You will never get a better Final 4 location for UConn fans than Boston and it sucked not getting there even with this flawed team.
You left out the worst part! I had tix to the Final Four!!!

Seriously though, getting to attend the championship game when Maryland tied it on a three from the corner with a few seconds left in regulation (can't remember her name, she was a freshman guard--I can still picture it) was a damned good consolation prize.

Like so many others the 2001 loss still stings.

I knew that. I was poking fun at fans who react to UConn losses without regard to what are reasonable expectations for the team.

You actually thought I was utterly serious about "the next loss"? Of course I'll be bummed by it, because it means this season will be over, but I don't expect that it will rank up with the Jess Foley or Ivory Latta nightmare games. I imagine it will rank like a couple national semifinal losses to ND (which I expect to be the next loss as well.)

The Ivory Latta game was horrible, but it made the recent shellackings of UNC that much sweeter ... so the pain doesn't linger.

No. I wasn't thinking about you and gave no thought at all to whether you were serious or not. I was speaking generally and without regard to any particular poster.

I hate when I'm reminded of this loss. Not only was I in St Louis for the final four but my seats for the semis were in ND land. Although I was cheering for UConn during the game it wasn't until the end that the 'ever faithful' green started to really dump some abuse on me :(

My parting remark to the crowd was, " We'll be back next year and you won't".

I hate that friggin leprechaun!
And you were right...and would have been for the next three seasons. That's the redeeming factor that puts this game lower down for me in retrospect. Shea and Svet got their championship. The TASS Force finished with two. Diana got three. All told, it was quite a five-year stretch.

The reason the 2011 loss stung much more for me was that Maya deserved to go out on top with as many 'ships as Chamique Holdsclaw and Diana Taurasi, and she didn't. Plus, even though her teammates didn't step up in that game, they all fought so hard throughout that season to live up to the expectations of the previous two despite having no depth and two freshman starters. And they nearly pulled it off. If UConn wins a NC anytime between this season and 2014, I bet Geno would be most ecstatic for Bria and Stef, in no small part because of the price they paid their freshman seasons.

I was so crazy about Shea, I think I cried for hours after she got hurt.. Rough emotional season for a 12 year old lol
