Is the next game on ESPNU as well? I went searching but all I found were mens games.

Rebecca was a great 3 point shooter in HS and prior to her injuries. Not so now, shoots 35%. She is the best that Duke has at 3 point shooting. She's not the player she was prior to her injuries.
basketball eye>stats .. ESPECIALLY in this case

USA 92 Czech Rep 54

Russell 18pts/12rebs
Jones 13pts/13rebs
Williams 12pts/8rebs
Powers 17pts/7rebs
McCall 15pts.8rebs
Wiese 9pts

Russell was the only one without a turnover.

This was supposed to be the toughest matchup yet but they blew them out of the water from the start. Shot 14 of 15 in the 1st quarter for a 30-15 lead (was 30-9 before two late threes).

Sounds like they're improving. They killed that team on the boards. A/TO still less than 1, but not completely hopeless. Good for them. 'Murica. :D

Nice. :D

Appears DD is injured - she supposedly had a foot/ankle problem coming into the games, played sparingly in the first game and hasn't played since. Canada's minutes dropped in this last game from 27 to 18.

Will any other games be televised? They really should promote these better.

The semis and finals. I don't have the dates handy, but they were in an earlier thread. The weekend, I think.

I didn't think the WUG were well promoted in general, there is other coverage of various events, mostly on the internet, although the Longhorn Network has some sport specific stuff and the "U" has men's basketball.

USA vs Hungary, Women's quarterfinals, will be televised Thursday, July 9th, at 5:00am EDT on ESPNU.

Apparently, and most of us fans are just hearing this now, Diamond had surgery last summer for a bone injury in her leg (details of injury a bit vague) that she played with almost the entire year and UNC. She had an extensive rehab and was completely shut down for months following the surgery. When tryouts came around she had been practicing since January and wasn't having any issues but during training camp and in Korea it appears the leg is taking its time to acclimate to physical activity. She is fine but they are easing her back and they are being cautious not to rush it.

This must have just been added? I says it's only covering the semis and finals.

ESPN has it listed on their upcoming schedule. However, since I posted this, USAB changed the start time for USA vs Hungary to 7:30 am EDT, so I don't know what is happening. I can't imagine ESPN would air Canada vs Czech Republic at 5:00 am and not show the USA game.

Has any game been shown on television this morning?

I just checked ESPN and they have now listed USA vs Hungary, Women's quarterfinals, will be televised Thursday, July 9th, at 7:30am EDT on ESPNU. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope they actually show it.

ESPN 3 has one quarter final game listed as a 5 am start and another quarter final game as a 7:30 start but they don't specify the teams involved.
On the USAB site, the USA is scheduled for the 7:30 am time slot. The 5:00 am slot has the Canada game.

I'll make sure to hit the DVR.

Brenda Freese tweeted the USA Game is on ESPNU at 7:30 AM

Game is on ESPNU. USA Guards are playing like they did against Italy. Lots of one on one play, poor Defense and silly turn overs. USA Should win, but in this 1st quarter they are keeping Hungary in the game so far.

USA Leads 20-15 end of 1st quarter.

Offense looks pretty bad. Screens being set in slow motion.

USA Leads 39-27 at the half. Hungary staying close despite their inability to hit outside shots. Some credit to USA Defense, but they're just missing wide open shots. Hungary scoring most of their points on dribble drives for easy layups.

I like Courtney Williams as a player, but like she does at USF, she's a volume shooter and hasn't seen a shot she won't take. If she to make it at the next level, she has to realize there are other players on the team that can make baskets.

UConn would demolish this Hungary team with their Team Play. This USA team is a bunch off All Stars that will probably win the Gold Medal because of superior talent, definitely not Superior Play.

Wbbfan1: Are you saying they are a "Dream Team." Anyone know how long they had to practice before the games began?

USA finally pulling away lead Hungary 65-34 end of 3rd quarter. USA's pressure defense led to easy baskets.

I am surprised Nina Davis is not have a lot of success on this team.

Definitely not a dream team, as " The Dream Team" knew how to play together and share the ball. Doubt many of the teams that are participating in this tournament have played together long. There are so many tournaments going on in the world at similar times.

The USA Men's team is primarily made up of players from Kansas University, augmented by a couple of players from other teams.

USA overwhelming Hungary in the second half. Very active on the defensive end. Huge difference in just the way the two teams look. Hungary has a lot of tall and very slim girls on the team. Most look as though they don't have access to neither a nutrition coach nor a strength and conditioning coach. They just can't compete on a physical level with the USA. In the second half, the USA is playing a couple of levels faster than Hungary is. No contest.

USA Wins 84-43 and into the Semi Finals. USA Dominated play in the 2nd half. IMHO USA Bench players play better team ball then the starters. USA's Superior talent overwhelmed Hungary who couldn't hit an outside sot until late in the game.

USA next probably plays Japan who was leading Australia late in the game.
Russia plays Canada in the other semi-final game.

I like Wiese's game. Unless she has an open 3, she looks to pass first and is easily our best guard at passing to the low post.

Out of curiosity, what are your expectations of Davis? She played 20 minutes today and scored 10 points (5/8 shooting), grabbed 6 rebounds and also had two steals and an assist. Seems to me that she is playing within the structure of the offense, thus she is not going to score 20+ points a game. Davis is not the type that is going to try to dominate the ball in this type of environment as she is a team player.
