That's a really good point, but also in this nil transferapalooza world, they can just follow him whenever. He got two of the best portal bigs this past year and the Auburn kid. Seems they’re doing ok, but I guess I hear what you’re saying. You have to make the call but doesnt strike me as the kind of guy who would run out of a great one year gig.
IU athletic dept really has unlimited economic resources- so money is not an issue. This year's team was the worst money can buy. Mark Cuban can always write a check.....
Which Big10 school(s)?I am old- went to a Big Ten School when there were only 10 teams...both my kids attend Big Ten school and live in CT and support Uconn

So a high salary will motivate them… to NOT stay in the job?Another older coach exiting. You won't see coaches older than 65 in the future. The salaries are too great to be worth hanging on too long and tarnishing their reputations.
They bank so much they don't need to coach longer. After a certain point they have enough saved up to not have to work.So a high salary will motivate them… to NOT stay in the job?
I hate to tell you, but that's not how it works with most people. They bank so much they don't need to coach longer. After a certain point they have enough saved up to not have to work.
It's working for more and more people these days who realize money can't buy happiness. It's evidenced by the declining number of 60+ year-old coaches in all sports.I hate to tell you, but that's not how it works with most people.
The upshot is that it's stunning that Indiana, with all its advantages, is in this spot once again. Tom Crean once led them to a No. 1 seed, lost in the Sweet Sixteen and was never heard from again. You think they'd take that at this point?
We were out to dinner in Florida the day before the 1987 Championship game with my IU loyalist cousin (just by accident we were both on vacation there) and, as a loyal Big East fan, I was telling him why Syracuse had the talent to win and he wouldn't hear it. Said IU would wipe the floor with them, etc.Bizarre hire to begin with…. crazy to
think that when Indiana won its 5th and last title, both us and Duke had 0.
I heard Pitino has applied already. And he promised he will stay there until he retires. Of course he also said that about Iona and St John’s and he has already filled out the application for Georgetown next year. But it will be his last stop.Disagree on that one. They’ve got a huge fan base, huge NIL budget, and are first and foremost a basketball school (yes, I understand they had a great season in football). If they hire the right coach, that program turns around quickly.
I’ve heard in his mind he’s going to Carolina. It’s likely Hubert will be encouraged to “retire” and Donovan is the choice to replace him.More and more chatter of Donovan being done in Chicago after this year. He really hasn't done much at the NBA level since that loaded OKC team. With that possibility and the crazy amount of openings these days, do wonder if he's willing to come back to the college game. Feels like a teacher, and the game could use a guy like him.
Dinavan was meant to be a college coach . Although it’s a different set of rules than when he left . He is also turning 60I’ve heard in his mind he’s going to Carolina. It’s likely Hubert will be encouraged to “retire” and Donovan is the choice to replace him.
Valvano said it best, a day is not complete without some good ol laughter. You’re welcome, compliments of Earl Weatherspoon CPA.Now that’s funny

I'm actually suprised he hasn't gone back to college to coach - especially a place like IU where with his prior/current success and a good NIL game, he could absolutely lead Indiana to be a top 10 team nationally and compete for a natty. He seemed to be IU’s dream. I never imagined he would even consider it.
