I must have missed that when I read the article linked in the OP.
I was totally confused myself, wondering whether Kayleigh had somehow reclassed as a first-year student. (We've seen stranger things in the world of the portal!) 🤓

At any rate, I eventually made my way over to ESPN and saw that there are six fresh(wo)men on the 50-player watch list, none of them from UConn. (To save anyone else who's curious the extra keystrokes, they are Agot Makeer (SC), Grace Knox (LSU), Addie Deal (Iowa), and Sienna Betts (UCLA), and, as @faninwisc noted above, Aaliyah Chavez (OK) and Jazzy Davidson (USC).)

.-.
Eighteen players from UCLA, LSU, South Carolina, and UConn, one from Villanova and Princeton, none from other mid-majors like South Dakota State (Brooklyn Meyer) or Richmond (Maggie Doogan).

Yes, the season just started, but Sarah has got to be prohibitive favorite for the Wooden. Not to mention not including Azzi.

Well, you posted this here (thanks by the way) and now people will got the ESPN's site to read the article. Mission accomplished by Voepel.😉

Hidalgo, Betts, and Booker are returning finalists from last year.

The preseason watch lists are basically meaningless, as you can play your way off or on as the season progresses. Nika Muhl wasn't on the preseason Nancy Lieberman watch list in 2023, but made the list at midseason and ended up one of the finalists.

After Hidalgo's video game performance against Akron, someone said she was the clear POY favorite. I replied that we should probably wait until she did that against a better team. Someone else said she does that against every team, to which I replied: "Oh, she's averaging 44 points and 16 steals a game?" (She was a little below that against Michigan.)

Four Huskies named to Wooden Award watch list.

Azzi Fudd
Serah Williams
Sarah Strong
Kayleigh Heckel

I love Heckel, but no idea why she's on the list.

K9 who is on the list is a backup to KK who is not on the list? Head scratch...

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out, Skeets. Maybe she was put on the list based on her performance at USC last season (which would be a head scratch itself) and then was left on the list after she had transferred to UConn.
