I guess I'm clueless and never won a pool before but I won 2,500 last night in pool. Someone suggested 10% when winning a pool. I must admit I never thought of it but is it customary?

I didn't win (thanks UNC) but the guy running my pool was ridiculously organized with all sorts of spreadsheets. He definitely deserved a tip. Not sure if customary though.

10%

I used to work on a trading floor and there would be pools everyday. Ten percent was standard.

$250 seems pretty steep? How many people were in the pool and if all the guy did was create an ESPN group, kinda seems unnecessary.

In any event, don't take my advice, just curious on the set up.

Always 10%
Don't be that guy ;)
I agree, but I won the pool and didn't tip once. I tied for 1st with another guy right down to the tiebreaker. So the guy splits the 1st prize pot in two, gives the 2nd pot to third place and 3rd money went to the person coming in 4th place. I said what the are you doing? You're supposed to add 1st and 2nd together and split it and give that to us. His answer was, "If I was going to do it that way, I should have announced it beforehand". WTF, you don't have to announce doing it the right way. You should have to announce doing it your way! You follow golf, you know what they do when two guys tie for 2nd. The add 2nd and third and split it. "Yeah" That's what you should do here. "I made my decision." Worst of all, that guy gets promoted.

My pools for the last ten years have only been through Yahoo, CBS or ESPN, so I haven't tipped anything on those. Running the pool yourself is a different story.

That guy deserves a throat punch. Please tell me that at least the 1st place prize was more than twice as big as the 2nd place prize.

I used to run ours at work. Chances are the guy did a lot of work and spent a few bucks. Great fun but time consuming.

Not even! It wasn't a ton of dough, but the original split was 70-20-10. S0 it was 35 v 20.
