FGCU vs. South Dakota

I wish I had that access to that channel online (I'm a cord-cutter). The gym will be rocking in the Dakota Dome.

SDSU 71-65. So happy for this very gritty, scrappy bunch of winners. Should they have been in the NCAA Tourney - I think so, but then I'm their next door neighbor here in Big Sky Country.

Two South Dakota teams. The NIT champions are the Coyotes of South Dakota, not the jackrabbits of South Dakota State!

Uh, I think you mean South Dakota, or USD ;)

USD had a great season. They vanquished their in-state rival and nemesis, SDSU, twice in the regular season, and I'm sure that losing to them in the conference championship game was a bitter disappointment. They were good enough to make the tournament but just didn't have the quality wins that the committee looks for.

The 'Yotes (as they're locally known) were a senior-laden team this year, but hopefully this experience will lay the groundwork for more success in the future. It would be great if both USD and SDSU could get into the tournament sometime soon.

Congrats as well to FGCU, which also dominated their conference only to suffer a heartbreaking loss in the conference championship game. They also lose a lot of great seniors, including Knight and Atwater. I hope Coach Smesko can rebuild.

I do know, but thanks for straightening me out this PM. Frankly, I don't know what it is about South Dakota, but their sports teams are just so tough, period, in any sport.

Both these teams were in the same situation. They won their respective conferences but
lost in their conference tournaments, thereby losing the automatic bids. I'm sure that
both teams felt that they should have gotten an at large bid. Their presence in the WNIT
final sort of supports the idea that they would have been worthy of an at large bid.
