Agreed. I'm not even sure whether I think it favored one side or the other in the Fever-Aces game, because Boston was getting away with a ton of stuff, but so was Young - honestly, kind of the first time I recall seeing Jackie playing what I think was a kind of "dirty" style, with a LOT of contact away from the basketball.

And I do understand why Reeve was upset because Phoenix is extremely physical and in that matchup the more physical the game, the more it works to Phoenix's benefit, since they run a lot more ISO plays and the Lynx need that freedom of movement to get open or into the lanes. I feel really bad for Phee because the last month and a half has been something of a nightmare and I have a hard time seeing how the Lynx can come back from this (a) at all and (b) with Phee on the bench. Fingers crossed it was just a rolled ankle and her tears more emotional than physical.
Hmmm. As a guy who still lugs his body out to play in a Sunday morning league, I find teams react to what the refs are calling...or not calling. Players who are inclined to be physical tend to be even more so, but those who generally are not can even get caught up in it. And those players physicality is even more glaring because it's out of character and unexpected.

Not using this as an excuse for any one player, but it is an indictment of a philosophy of "letting 'em play" in games that showcase the alleged best and brightest. It's disappointing.

As much as I enjoy watching basketball, I have not watched a WNBA game this season. Didn’t see this play so I’m not making a judgement here. It’s just way too physical and it wasn’t always like this.
I agree with you. I’m really souring on the pro game. It’s no longer about basketball skills. The strongest and most aggressive are being rewarded. It’s more like the old roller derby. Not fun anymore.

I saw the bad news last night about Phee. Not good but no need to fear. We got Bridget, Maria, and Alanna. First to three. Rally the troops...and if we miss three 3-point attempts in a row, take it to the rack. With so much attention on the officials today, we are getting some calls. Let's go, Lynx!! First to three. It ain't over. Let's see who our Dawgs are out there today.

Indy pushes it to game 5. Regardless of what happens in game 5 it's been a heck of a run for a team that's endured so much adversity this year. Monster efforts today by Boston and Mitchell. White proving once again she's among the best coaches in the game. The turnaround they've made from 2+ years ago is remarkable.

Boston so very aggressive today in the paint, drawing fouls to the tune of 10-13 from the FT. line. Las Vegas hit 8-11 as a team, with Wilson 3-6 and Young 4-4.

Boston, Mitchell, Sims and Coach White got this one across the finish line to force a trip back to Las Vegas.

Agreed. It's a testament to what the front office has done over the last 3 - 4 years. There's a great foundation to build on for many years to come, potentially.

Minnesota playing well through the first half. In a potentially unexpected turn of events, we could see the Fever make the Finals without Caitlin Clark and the Lynx get there without Collier.

She had a bad shooting game, but Hull altered so, so many possessions with her defense and hussle. I know I'm a partisan but I've been really happy to see how critical she has been to the Fever's playoff run.

Duly noted and saw how much she was doing things that don't show up in the boxscore. Heck, I could put my Irish hat on and pat Turner on the back for a few key defensive plays and boxouts. Takes a whole team. At the end of games like this, I just noted that Mitchell and Boston were carrying the team offensively. That said, the whole team will be out west for the final!

I'm not a fan...but never bet against AT in the playoffs. Unless it's the Finals. But maybe this will finally be her year.

Kudos to the Lynx for putting up a good fight with Reeve and Collier both missing the game.
- All kudos to the Mercury for coming back from two 14-pt. deficits in four games.

  • Looking at the box score, both teams shot 42% from the floor and were virtually identical from three, as well In fact, Minnesota hit much better from the line, going 8-9, as opposed to Phoenix just hitting 12-17. Therein lies one of the things that helped Phoenix close it out: they got to the line 8 more times.
  • And the other reason, for me, was obvious in the fourth quarter: The only Lynx that felt comfortable taking shots were Williams and, of course, K-Mac. Phoenix knew that and made life very difficult for both of them at the end.
  • Having Phee obviously would've helped and Reeve probably would've drawn up some approaches, but hey, the Lynx had the lead until the (almost) end.
and
  • Bonner didn't shoot very well at all recently, but she hit some crushers here and that's all that matters. Tibbetts, he million-dollar coach, said as much in the post-game presser.
  • K-Mac is unbelievable with that release. Thought Lynx would've helped themselves even more having her run off off-ball screens rather than have her create off high-ball action, where everyone was waiting to double her. But that's moot at this point.

Geesh, imagine if this ends up being a battle between two desert teams.

I kind of want A'ja to win for the legacy stuff.

But Aliyah winning would also be cool. And the Fever winning a title without Clark would be an all time hilarious thing that could happen.
I’ll be happy with either one, but probably no franchise needs the clean slate of nearly everybody a FA more than Las Vegas. With A’ja, they have what should be the easiest path to building a contender, but it generally takes a herculean effort from her to beat quality opponents. I’m sure she’d happily trade some of her stats for a little more help.

While Moore was a key, they did have a few other Hall of Famers who deserve some credit. Whalen, Augustus, Fowles, and Brunson to name a few had a part in these accomplishments.

I agree, but they won 0 without Maya and 4 with her.

Speaking of Brunson, I think she belongs in the HOF.

Same is true for Brunson and Whalen who joined just one year prior to Maya and helped guide them to all 4 titles.

In their 4 titles, Fowles was a 2x Finals MVP, Augustus was a Finals MVP, and Maya won 1. It was never just the Maya show.

Mad respect for my beloved Minnesota Lynx. Down a head coach and best player, they put up a solid fight. They came out swinging and gave their all. Not going to lie. After watching that Fever/Aces game and seeing the Lynx playing so well, I thought that we would pull off a miracle but Phoenix, like they have done all series, cranked up the defensive pressure, knocked down shots, and just had another gear that Minny did not have. Well done, Phoenix and congrats. Hopefully people put some respect on AT's name. She plays literally the whole game. Handles the offense. Guards the other teams best player(s) and NEVER looks gassed. She is Wolverine out there. Relentless! Congrats, Phoenix and the million dollar coach.

I think the Mercury are an example of gelling at the right time. It also helps that their big 3 are all healthy. Thinking of finals matchups, I bet the Fever were hoping for the Lynx and the Aces were hoping for the Mercury. The Mercury provide some matchup issues for the Fever that have been evident through the season.

Lemme tellya, this Husky fan LOVED seeing A'ja and Aliyah playing yesterday. Geez, I'm looking forward to game 5 if they put on a show like that again.
