How many former Huskies currently on WNBA rosters ? 14. A quick check of other schools shows ND with 5, Stanford with 3,, Baylor with 2 and surprisingly Tennessee with 8.
Duke and Rutgers, 9 each. Did not realize Kalana had been cut. WNBA transaction page not updated since 11May. Missing the final cut days. Poor execution by them.
Usually GA's are only in place for one or two years while they obtain their Masters Degree. After that, they move on. Someone closer to the UConn program will have to answer your query with respect to Jasmine. If you remember, UConn had an opening for a GA, which is how she came to the program. The person that had it before her moved on and created the opening.
Program GA's are invaluable. They are everything from "go-fers" to individual coaching to some of the players that need personal one-on-one (drill/skill enhancement) attention that the paid staff coaches do not have the time to give players. They do all of the coaches bidding. There are a lot of needs (odd jobs on and off the court) that college level programs have, that are best attended to by these graduate assistants.
Tasks that the basketball office personnel is not suited to do, and that you can't ask the players to do, or that are kinda beneath (or too time consuming for) the assistant coaches to do. A good GA is worth their weight in gold. They're constantly getting orders and requests from the head coach, as well as the assistants. They're kept busy, in addition to also going to class.
I wonder if Jasmine will try her luck overseas this winter. Presumably if she's good enough to get a WNBA camp invite she's good enough to make an overseas roster.
