WNBA Playoffs - week of Aug 18th

Update on standings and games for this week. Teams moving up or down are shaded in green and blue respectively. Thankfully last week's mosh pit list of #7-10 still stand. MIN has a spot in the playoffs locked up. I moved IND to the mix group based on their 1-2 record from last week.

This week's schedule features only one "mosh pit" game of the mix-pack teams vying for a spot in the playoffs. WAS has two potential wins vs CT, a toughie vs LV, and an important one vs SEA, for them to climb the mix list. Similarly, SEA has potential wins two games vs teams in the third tier, and the most pit game vs WAS. GS has a winnable (maybe?), and then two vs PHX - who makes this schedule? And don't ask - LA only plays once this week? Sheesh.

Here are all the games thru Sunday, as there are also games that may affect seeding, however we still have four weeks to go.

Ouch. WAS needed a win last night vs CT to stay in the hunt. GS and SEA holding firm at 7 and 8.

Per the WNBA, Wednesday's playoff clinching/elimination scenarios:

Dallas is eliminated with a loss
Chicago is eliminated with a Los Angeles win

The way the Mystics have been playing this year has been inspiring; but you have to think that their management probably prefers to just miss the playoffs as opposed to getting a #8 seed. Assuming that everyone who misses the playoffs gets into the draft lottery, you give yourself an option to get a very high pick in what should be a really good draft. Plus, if Seattle somehow misses the playoffs too, you also get their pick.

Reminder, top 5 next year likely some combo of: Betts, Fudd, Flaujae, Latson, Miles.
