WNBA players opt out of CBA, to start talks
"We look forward to our upcoming discussions and negotiating a new agreement with the league," the union said in a statement.

WNBA executive council president Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks wrote a piece for The Players' Tribune explaining the players' position. She wrote, in part, that she wants young female athletes to grow up dreaming about "the league that I know ours can become. A league that has a fair and consistent work environment. A league that treats its players as the world-class athletes they are. A league that invests in its future. A league that believes in us as much as we believe in it." Perhaps the NBA should walk away and let them have their dream.

Very curious to see if numbers are released regarding profitability and salaries. Hoping for the best outcome that ensures this league will be around a while and players will be happy to play in it. Props to Nneka for the well written piece that helps dive into the fundamentals of it rather than seeing players complain on social media about how much male players make.

I hope if nothing else changes, they significantly raise max contracts so that players are paid closer to their worth on their respective teams. Found a spreadsheet on another board that looks like almost every player who isn't on a rookie contract is making 70k+/season and most teams have 5-6 players on max contracts. On Phoenix, for example, Little/Lyttle/January are making the same or almost as much as Taurasi and Griner. That just isn't right. Pay the best players more money, and pay role players what they're worth.

Should be interesting. Read a bit about how men's pro teams salaries are based on some combination of revenue or profit. Since neither is positive for WNBA, not sure what this negotiation will revolve around.
