Its sad! I could build a team with those waived. May not win a championship but could field a pretty decent team.

Still amazes me that Kaela Davis cant make a roster. Wonder if its something off the court.

Question....

In yesterday's transactions there are several players shown as "Suspended - Partial Season"

What does that mean?

Could be injury, similar to injured reserved in NFL, national team commitment re the Olympics.

With so few total roster spots available, it seems that WNBA teams are always filled with veteran players who have proven their abilities in the W and then rookie contracts...to stay under the cap and hopefully discover a young player who can succeed at the pro level. A lot of the fringe young players survive in the league for a season or two on their rookie contracts, then let go for even younger players who may prove more impactful. It seems like you have to be a pretty established presence to have staying power in the W.

Some of those proven veterans are kept around for a fair number of seasons after they have much left to give on the court. That aspect of the WNBA drives me crazy.

Completely agreed. Great example being Crystal Langhorne.

This is a designation for players like Gabby Williams Sky/Sparks that cannot play this season. They are still overseas honoring prior commitments that do not coincide with the WNBA schedules.

Note that the WNBA will suspend play from July 15 - August11 for the Olympic games that some of the players will be participating in.

Kiah Stokes (NY Liberty) was on the suspended list last year because she chose to stay overseas the entire WNBA season. Most of these players on the partial suspended list will join their respective teams at some point during the season, ergo the designation "partial season".

Yep. Storm loves those kind of players. Kept Noelle Quinn for the last 2 seasons of her career when she had NOTHING left in the tank.

This is a designation for players like Gabby Williams Sky/Sparks that will not "physically" with the team on opening day. They are still overseas honoring prior commitments that do not coincide with the WNBA schedules. Williams has expressed a desire to play in the Olympics, if she makes the cut, she would not join the Sparks until the season resumes play on August 11.

There are 2 types of suspension, "partial" and "full". Gabby Williams' suspension falls under "full" category. Even if she wanted to play this season, she can't.

A quote from the ESPN article Sparks acquire Sky's Williams for two players

"The Sparks said Sunday that Williams will remain on the suspended list for this season. Los Angeles sent rookie guard Stephanie Watts, the No. 10 pick out of North Carolina in last month's WNBA draft, and the rights to German guard Leonie Fiebich, the No. 22 pick in the 2020 draft, to Chicago."

Thanks for the correction. I'll make that correction.

Crystal is a very quick big player. Not fast and can only give spot duty but she can shut other bigs down very effectively.
She definitely was when in her prime. But her last few seasons were plagued with injury and she was just highly ineffective. My guess is that she was under contract so the storm either had to cut her loose and and carry less players or keep her. There were definitely youngsters performing at a higher level.

Another case being Seimone Augustus last season. Just saw she announced her retirement today. The timing makes me believe the Sparks were considering cutting her before tomorrow’s opening day, but chose to give her a coaching role instead. One of the all time greats in her prime, but Father Time caught up to her.

Damn, I was really hoping Pivec would stick with the Lynx. Seems they're choosing to go shorthanded and keeping Rennia Davis on the roster..

Anigwe will do another stint in Dallas. They picked her up after LA waived her.
