For the Western Conference lead. Lynx and Shock both at 5-1... Tulsa on a serious roll (won last 5), but the Lynx have Maya and the Shock don't. Should be a good one. 7pm WNBA Live Access.

In the undercard, the Sun look to sweep the western road trip and maintain control of the Eastern Conference. 5pm and it looks like it will be broadcast locally by WTNH.

NBATV has a triple header today (DirecTV 216).

Liberty v Dream 12pm pt
Sun v Sparks 2pm pt
Shock v Lynx 4pm pt

Tulsa vs Minn is the final of the triple-header here in Connecticut on NBATV

lets go Stokes

the Dream lite up the scoreboard for 10 points in the first quarter - back to the golf, and baseball

5 technical fouls in about a 2 minute span in the NY vs ATL game

Wow

Brittany Boyd
Matee Ajavon
Angel McCoughtry
Tanisha Wright x2 and an ejection

Boyd is pretty good.

its Laimbeer's fault these players got techs?

I didn't watch the game, but I did read the colorful commentary on Rebkell (which was probably more entertaining than the game itself, haha).

But my impression is that the 5 technicals had one common denominator: Matee Ajavon.

I THINK, Ajavon was ruffling Tanisha Wright's feathers with some contact, so Wright and Ajavon got into it a bit. Then Ajavon's teammate McCoughtry joined in and had words for Wright, and Wright took the bait and earned another technical (thus an ejection). Then I'm guessing Boyd somehow got involved and got into it a little bit.

Again, there's a common denominator here. I don't follow the gossip too closely, but apparently Ajavon is a notorious trash talker and I'm sure many long-time UConn fans have salty memories of it from back to her Rutgers days.

Being a Cal fan, I'll say Boyd is definitely a tough cookie who plays with swag and is a fierce competitor with an array of facial expressions (lol), but Cal coach Gottlieb is a class-act and at the end of the day Boyd is definitely a reflection of that: offering a hand to opposing players after a foul, checking to see if an opponent is ok after taking a spill, a congratulatory Tweet to an opponent even after a disappointing loss, etc.

We Cal fans are so happy that Boyd is off to a solid early start in the WNBA. She isn't and probably will never be a terrific shooter, but one recently development is that her amazing ability to get into the paint and attack the rim is resulting in frequent trips to the free-throw line (where so far she's converting at a nice FT %), which wasn't necessarily the case for her in the college game. And a great ball handler, can really be a tenacious thief on defense, and makes some spectacular no-look laser passes. It's almost bizarre, but Boyd is more likely to drain an acrobatic off-balance circus shot than an open look from beyond the arc. She's worked hard on her shooting and made baby steps of improvement over the years, but at the end of the day, not everyone is Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis! Still, we are proud of Britt Boyd and thrilled that the Liberty seems to be a great fit for her game, and hope she has success as a pro!

Sorry, I know this is the UConn board/Boneyard, and not the Cal board/Bearinsider, lol, but I forgot to mention Boyd's rebounding ability for her size! At 5'7"-5'8" she led Cal this past season in rebounding with 7.7 rpg, which helped her finish in a tie for most triple doubles in the country with a pair, while flirting with the achievement several other times. And while naturally very athletic, she was never even the most athletic player nor had the most hops on the team while at Cal. Her rebounding prowess is more a testament to her conditioning and competitive nature.

Good game.

My take away so far.....

1. Tulsa is good (without Sims btw)
2. All the games yesterday and today my ROY is Derica Hamby.....

If the ROY is either Chelsea Gray or Hamby..... I'll be happy

That's a pretty nice win for Tulsa...on the road, without Sims or Glory, while Minnesota had all its key players for the year.

Minnesota is Minnesota, but I don't see a ton of upside for them in terms of room for improvement over the course of the season.

What happened to that talk about Sylvia Fowles wanting to play for Minnesota? That would certainly be just what the doctor ordered and take Minny up a notch. And they certainly have some extra talent to put together a fair trade package if that were the case.

I think Monica Wright is a fine player but they don't really need her. I think they ought to trade her before her stock goes down (if it hasn't already). Wright + one of their bigs or maybe even a future draft pick might be able to score them a quality big.

Edit: I forgot to mention the possibility of Maya Moore going off (again) at any given moment. That is certainly an upside of Minnesota.

I feel like Minnesota is missing a post player. A true 5 player in the post like Tina or Courtney Paris.

Agreed. That's why they went after Jones, and she certainly showed she can defend the 5 as she did for Team USA, but you are right - no true post presence...
