I was surprised to hear Arike mentioned as one of a trioka. I thought she was gone. She still has some utility, but her productivity was way down. Maybe she'll find renewed fire power.I'm thrilled for my local girl, Azzi. She and Paige have wanted to play together for 6 or 7 years. Last year, we got a sense of what they could do together. Adding Arike to the mix makes Dallas a very explosive team.
Though there was some talk about Dallas needing bigs, I think that was addressed via free agency. A year ago, Paige talked about making the Wings a franchise that other players would want to go to. I think she was very successful in that regard. The front court now adds Awak Kuier, Alanna Smith, Jessica Shepard, and Zee Spearman. The Wings will be very fun to watch.
She also wasn't fully healthy last season. Based on her play in Unrivaled, she looks like she's healed from whatever ailed her.I was surprised to hear Arike mentioned as one of a trioka. Yes, good reason for his absence. My wife and I tuned in a bit late and missed Azzi being called first, though we have seen some YouTube videos of her selection.
It didn’t appear that Geno was present and if so, I guess that somewhat surprises me.
Was it mentioned during the broadcast? If not, does anyone have any insight?
ON EDIT - I see this was mentioned and answered in a different thread.
And they added Alysha Clark yesterday.Re: Paige, Azzi, Arike. I realize Arike is polarising due her shooting %, but this will be her 8th season in Dallas, playing over 30min a game, so she is a legacy player for the Wings. Also with several all star appearances and of course 20 ppg.
It's prudent of management to give a shot at making this work. Also I saw in Unrivaled that Paige and Arike get along very well. Since Arike was a free agent, this also meant she wanted to come back, taking less than max contract.
If they play the 3 guards plus Shephard and Smith, that still leaves Maddie Siegrist, Lindsay Allen, Awak Kuier, Li Yueru etc as reserves.
Management has put a nice team together.
Last year the Wings were last in the league in 3 point shooting, so what do you think?Happy for Azzi, but is Azzi really what Dallas needs to become a better team? I guess only time will tell.
