That's an uninspiring, retread coaching move. If she consistently underachieved w/ Taurasi and Griner, what's she going to do w/ the Lib's roster?

Agreed. The first year was spectacular and after that Phoenix hasn't won more than 20 games in a season. I thought her firing could've been made in 2019 or 2020 considering how little she had accomplished despite having 2 of the most talented players of all time, but it's incredibly odd to me that she got canned after Phoenix got back to the finals.

At any rate, I'm not sure how trading Hopkins for Brondello could be considered an upgrade, unless the player all really like Brondello. Hopkins is unproven but the Liberty made a huge jump (10 game improvement) in his 2nd year and look primed to be on the upswing with a lot of new additions and a good core group of players. I thought they would've given him a couple more years since it appears he's righting the ship.

Brondello isn't spectacular, but I think she is competent - I'm not sure what the Hopkins issue specifically was, but she definitely isn't a back-slide. Some of the Liberty hires have been head-scratching, but if they hire Brondello I would grade it a "C".

I've got absolutely no skin in this Sandy Brondello discussion, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, I did get my daily "The Next" newsletter and Next Liberty Beat reporter Jackie Powell lays out -- via twitter posts -- why she thinks the Aussie is a good fit for the Liberty. (Hit the "Read the Full Conversation" tag.) Player movement is something Powell and Hopkins both believe in, apparently, with Powell citing her work with the Opals. On that note, maybe I should find a Holiday Inn ;)
