The WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 14 at Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, the league announced Monday.

The game will match the All-Stars voted in who are members of the U.S. women's national team (called Team USA) vs. the other voted-on All-Stars (called Team WNBA). Voting will include a combination of ballots from fans (50%), current WNBA players (25%) and a national media panel (25%).

Rosters will be announced June 30.

So the US National Team vs. those who didn't make it? I get that it's not always THE BEST players who make the USWNT, but I can't imagine a team of Sue, Dee, Stewie, Tina, Sylvia, Brit, A'ja (locks IMHO), and then possibly Pheesa, Skyler, Jewell, Copper, McBride, Nneka, Tiff Hayes, Gray, Plum (pick 5 - will EDD or Nneka be healthy for the Olympics?) wouldn't slaughter the leftovers of the WNBA. Not to mention players like Gabby and Bria playing for France, and the rest of the WNBA who plays for their own countries (Meeserman, Talbot, Macbegor, etc. etc.).

Anyway no idea who makes the USWNT - should be very interesting. Players who put up big numbers (Ogunbowale) or who have lots of hype, but average YTD stats (Deshields) - not sure either fits in well with the "team". But we will see. Plum, Alicia Grey, Stef and Lou won't be eligible for the USWNT since they will be on the 3x3 team right?

I thought the men's approach of having top 2 team captains picking sides from an All-Star pool is a good one to draw a little intrigue. Not this goofball idea.

Sounds like it will be the most talented team the U.S. has ever faced. Great prep for the Olympics.
