WNBA 2026

Betts or Fam is the move here. All signs point to Dallas taking Fudd at #1, I think Minnesota chooses Betts at 2. People are high on Fam's upside but I don't think Cheryl wants to invest in a 3-4 year project when she could take Betts who will contribute immediately.
I hope Minnesota picks Betts. You can't pass up a Big like Betts.

Nope. Michaela Onyenwere just signed a deal to play for them per Chine Ogumike on Twitter.
The Mystics will be young, but they can see who they get and/or don't get in the draft and then determine if they need to augment it with who is left in the free agency pool.

Next morning edit: I see Michael Voepel, in his final mock draft, has Cotie McMahon going to the Mystics. With the Onyenwere signing, I don't see that happening. With that third pick, I still see the Mystics going after either another stick-it three-pt. shooter or a solid power forward.

I'm just doing a quick look over of the Fever to try and see what pieces are missing to completing the roster.

1 - Caitlin Clark, Ty Harris
2 - Kelsey Mitchell, (?)
3 - Lexie Hull, Sophie Cunningham
4 - (?), Makayla Timpson
5 - Aliyah Boston, Monique Billings, Damiras Dantas
Developmental spots: Makayla Timpson, Bree Hall, or someone from the draft?

Clearly the biggest need is at the four. After losing out on Alana Smith, I don't know who else is in negotiations. Timpson isn't ready and would probably be best as an insurance option either as the 12th woman on the bench or as one of the two developmental roster spots. If needed, Boston/Billings/Dantas could fill in at the four but I don't think that is ideal.

The second highest need is to find a player with a scorers mentality to backup Mitchell so that she can get more breathers in games. Ty could fill this at times but I don't think it comes as naturally for her.

So with that said, unless there is a guaranteed contract in the works, I think the #1 need is a forward and #2 is a scoring guard in this draft. Looking at the draft pool with their #10 pick, I think they will target the best available scoring guard of the following players in the first round: Flau'jae Johnson, Ta'Niya Latson, Cotie McMahon. Johnson and Latson will probably be off the board by the #10 pick, so my bet is on Cotie McMahon. There is an outside shot that they choose a forward but I don't think there will be anyone that they desire unless they blindside us all and pick Barker (I highly doubt it but don't see it as unimaginable). The best forwards on the draft board at #10 will probably be Dugalic and Suarez and I just don't seem them sticking in the league. Plus, they already have a similar big in Dantas on the roster.

So, The Mystics have a bit of a decision to make just before the draft. The two-day period is over in a few hours this Monday.
And the ramifications of that decision could continue into the draft tonight. Stay tuned!

Personally, I might let the Tempo have Austin, particularly since it looks like the Mystics will get a big at #4. It will also allow them the financial flexibiltiy to go after a UFA next year.

Since Coach Johnson is now in charge of everything, I'll offer up some druthers for him on this three picks: Take Betts or Fam with #4, if available. Then, take a point guard given Amoore is coming back from injury, Sug Sutton is in Portland and Jade Melbourne back in Seattle.
Rice would be preferable if Betts is taken, but Ms. Johnson from S. Carolina will do, too. And I like the idea of a solid forward, particularly one that can stretch the floor: Dugalic or Maggie Doogan would do the trick.

I can't blame Megan G. in the slightest. Always thought she was on such a short lease at Las Vegas. Maybe she'll get a chance to play without looking over her shoulder.
Huge fan of Megan. I agree. I always felt like she was getting the short end of the deal in Phoenix and with Las Vegas. Hopefully she can shine in Portland.

I agree with the 1st two. With the 11th pick I'll go BPA. I'll try for my stretch forward with the #19th pick.

Good thought. Doogan or Van Slooten could both be available then.

If they let Austin go...it makes room for Betts, whose assistant coach (Michaela Onyenwere) just signed with the Mystics. I'm not sure Betts will be a better player than Austin, but in meantime, she is cheaper.

Good point. And if Rice is available with their next pick, Oynenware's presence could have some sway there, too, if it comes down to another point guard (say Raven Johnson). We'll see.

Aces essentially resigned their roster with minimal changes. I get having the best player in the world, a top 2 coach, and 3 of the last 4 titles is a good case for not mixing it up but I’m dumbfounded Aces are going to finish THIS free agency without addressing the second key big they’ve needed for most of A’ja’s career

It will be interesting to see how Cheyenne Parker-Tyus plays. She had very limited playing time after coming back late in the season from maternity leave. But she had a great 2023 season, and if she can back close to that form, she will be a very solid addition.

And with the news of Stokes heading to Golden State, it seems like the Aces are betting on Parker-Tyus, but that additional forward for depth remains a mystery.

Yup. and with all respect to Ms. Parker-Tyus, that breakout season was three years ago. Having some insurance/an extra big might seem prudent.

All eyes on Fargas and Hammon to see how they're going to manage this.

Spider (Allen) Is Back with the Liberty.
This seems right and tight with the W!

Looks like they are looking at Tyus, Turner, and Talbot (all have some sort of contract for now). As a season ticket holder of Aces, Tyus look quite good the first few games for someone that has been out. Definitely more versatile than Stoke for Becky to play with. I think Turner's offensive game is alot better than Stoke's. I am excited to see the new season. The team looked really good toward the latter part of the season last year and that team is largely intact.
