WNBA 2026

Talk about a win win. I'm not sure Karl will be ready to start on opening day of the W given the length of recovery time associated with her injury, but they can IR her until she is a grab a free agent, and they have tons of cap space to be patient while she recovers. She also spoke at Tara's class this year and she has loads of coaching potential once she retires. One of the best eggs to come out of Stanford.
I'm still mourning that bank shot of hers just before the shot clock ended....🫤🫣

Huh? Jessica Shepard and Alanna Smith basically played the same position in Minnesota....and now they end up in Dallas. Together again? I'm.....flummoxed? Yes, I know Shep can (and does) go inside more and Smith can get out to the arc, but with Kuier there, too, could this be big forward overkill? Or, like the Mytics with Austin (at least for now) and Iriafen, is this the approach?

Stay tuned. Maybe the draft choice on Monday will tell all?

On her instagram page much of her off-season rehab was done at Stanford.

The GM for Portland was her GM for the London Lions who Karlie played for 3 years ago.

I think that they can co-exist well with Shepard being the inside presence on offense and Smith sitting at the 3 point line.
Also, I think we can be pretty certain that the Wings will pick a guard with their #1 pick on Monday...

Mixed reaction. As a Lynx fan, I loved what Smith added to the team. She is going to do well for the Wings.
With Smith and Shepard now on the Wings, it's obvious the Lynx are going in a different direction. Will 'Phee now be the ostensible big forward with Carrington taking over the wing slot? And Dorka Juhasz playing the middle? The question: will they augment that with one of the bigs in the draft on Monday?

Yeah it sounds like the Wings are going for Miles or Fudd and the Lynx are grabbing either Betts or Fam (by bet is on Betts).

With the rumors of Harris joining the Fever, I think the Wings are grabbing Miles. That will allow Bueckers to play more off the ball and give them more versatility to move pieces around. Like I could see a great small-ball lineup with Bueckers at the 4. I'm locking in my bet with

1. Miles (Dallas)
2. Betts (Minnesota)
3. Fudd (Seattle)
4. Fam (Mystics)
5. Rice (Chicago)

The Mystics would love that scenario.

Please do NOT make Bueckers play the 4 in the W. She was able to do it in college for a while for a depleted UConn team, but she would get overwhelmed by traditional 4's in the W/WWE.

Coach Reeve has drafted some decent players over the years. The sad part those picks we drafted panned out to fit whatever Coach Reeve has been trying to build. With this current draft class, we got options. Coach has to go with the safest pick and get Betts. We need that big like Betts. I would love to see Miles or Azzi here in Minny, but having Betts here would be better.

There was an article talking about Reeve's lack of success through the draft over the last 5-6 seasons. It started off well, but only focused on first rounders and then went on a diatribe about Reese, who the Lynx could have selected in 2024. Thier internal bias took away from what could have been a really good article.

Really unfortunate because I was hoping for a deeper dive. It's something that I've been curious about with respect to Reeve because she's had great success with drafting and developing talent in the past.

I think we read the same article. LOL But yeah, the article went sideways pretty quick and I get it, to a degree. The draft is, as well know, 50/50. Sometimes you strike gold and everyone thinks you are the greatest GM/Coach ever. Sometimes you come off looking like you something on your shirt because you drafted "X" player instead of "Y' player.

I still love our 2023 draft class here in Minnesota. Diamond, Dorka, Brea, and Taylor Soule. The drafting of Maia Hirsch is that "something on your shirt" pick. On paper, it looked great. 6'5". Great hands. Strong in the paint. Mid-range game and low post game. She played like a young Lauren Jackson. Decent footwork. The only issue, injury prone. I believe we still have her draft rights, but what could have been!

Nice post. Gotta love Karlie.

Congrats on the signing!

Yeah...Smith had a nice season with Chicago before she came to Minnesota. It was just Phoenix that had no idea what to do with her. Oh, Indiana too.

Not even sure which players this refers to, but Williams and Hiedeman were both productive before they came to Minnesota. Maybe Carleton should be the player featured in the photo, but she was only with Connecticut for part of one season before coming over to the Lynx.

I think there's somewhat of a narrative that Reeve develops players who were underutilized elsewhere, and I'm not really sure that it's true.

Just looking at their roster from last year, big nope on McBride and Carrington. Both did plenty before they arrived.

OK, Minnesota has their (starting) point guard.
If they sign K-Mac, you can guarantee they'll go big with the #2 pick.
On the other hand, if they don't....could Azzi Fudd be going there as the spot-up shooter? Risky to not have K-Mac, but we'll see.

Well, they determined it wasn't worth taking a risk on losing McBride. So now it's anyone's guess what they'll do with the second pick. 😁

Betts or Fam is the move here. All signs point to Dallas taking Fudd at #1, I think Minnesota chooses Betts at 2. People are high on Fam's upside but I don't think Cheryl wants to invest in a 3-4 year project when she could take Betts who will contribute immediately.
