Okay, many people wondered as late as early SSpring whether there would be a draft. Yes, it is on! The W has invited 15 prospects to the draft. They are:

This is the first draft in a while where I feel like anything could happen. There is a consensus that 4 players could go #1 (Fam, Fudd, Betts, Miles), but I think what MN does next, and then Seattle, is still very TBD.

Looks like Lauren Betts, Olivia Miles, Azzi Fudd and Awa Fam will be among the first five according to sources / but who knows? Will Dallas defy conventional “wisdom” and choose Azzi to reunite with Paige or a big?

Any draft order trades remaining?

Will the 15 invitees be all first rounders or will mock projected second rounders jump some of those invitees like projected #15 Medina Okot?

Will teams look at a Janiah Barkers physical ability or her reputation?

Lot’s of other questions

I'm going to confess that I don't follow the WNBA very much but I do see headlines. So...what are the chances chances of Dallas drafting Azzi if they just signed Arike? Just wondering 🤔.

Barker should be the 1st player taken in the 2nd round. Teams with multiple 1st round picks should definitely look at her in the 2nd round.

.-.
As long as the Valkyries don't take her, I don't care. She's bad juju as far as I'm concerned.
I don’t think she can get away with any BS in the pros since she’ll just get chopped as soon as she’s a problem. Worth a 2nd round pick IMO since her upside is huge if she can get her head on right

That's a big if. They didn't expand roster sizes with this CBA so it's gotta be a rebuilding team like Chicago or Connecticut that has time for a project. Natalie guest spoke at Tara's class this spring and she made clear she'd never coach college ball because she can only deal with "pro ready" players, so I don't see her fitting with GSV. The one thing our entire roster had in common last season was team-first mentality from day one.

Maybe I'm being obtuse but when was the last draft where the night before there was not a consensus number 1 pick. I really don't know what Dallas will do

I would put a lot of Kalshi wagers on it being Azzi. After the Wings threw max money at Lin and Shep, they'd be delulu to draft a big.

2021 when Charli Collier was taken #1 overall? I honestly cannot remember much about that draft class but it was considered to be one of the weakest classes, so possibly that one?

I have an idea Azzi will be reuniting with Paige, since the Wings have loaded up on bigs.

Of course, draft-day (and later) trades are very possible here, since the free-agent period was so short. Makes me think that many teams may not be all that satisfied with the moves they've been able to make so far.

Probably 2019. There were a lot of names floating around as a potential #1 pick. Prior to that maybe 2009, but that year it felt more obvious that Angel would go #1.

According to many pundits this morning , the free agency moves by Dallas for bigs lead to the conclusion that Azzi will be chosen #1.

It says "should go #1" in the thumbnail.

Nothing has been decided yet. They just signed Lindsay Allen. Doesn't mean they wouldn't consider Olivia Miles.

I agree that it’s all speculative at this point, I’m just relaying what seems to be the consensus’s opinion this morning.

Very excited about this draft. One paper, this is one the WNBA's deepest drafts since 2014.
