objectivity: the quality or character of being objective: lack of favoritism toward one side
or another : freedom from bias. Many people questioned the selection committee's objectivity.
It can be difficult for parents to maintain objectivity about their children's accomplishments.

In her WNBA debut, Taurasi scored 22 points in a 72–66 Mercury loss to the Sacramento
Monarchs.

Caitlin scores 21.

Next time I'll be, uh, more objective in pointing out Clark's line. Though just as you are free to report that she scored 21 points I am free to point out other things she did.

Are you some kind of Clark groupie? You seem to be taking my post awfully personal.

Hard to draw too many conclusions about the Fever in this one since they were missing two of their expected top five or six rotation players in Mitchell and Samuelson. As a result Clark seemed to play off ball a lot of the night. Wheeler actually looked pretty good to me but I think eventually we’ll see Clark get the keys to the offense more than she did tonight. Can’t really hold that missed final shot against her, they lost too much time getting the ball to her and it was well-defended.

Smith can do a lot of different things. She missed some shots she’ll make most nights. Boston didn’t have a good game at all although there aren’t many WNBA frontcourts that’ll be harder to deal with physically than Brown/McCowan/Howard. More concerning to me was that the Fever didn’t seem to look for her often which was an issue at times last year as well.

Indiana has some nice complimentary pieces, Hull has found her role and Berger looked comfortable if quiet. I think Saxton and Correa are pretty clearly Indiana’s two cuts.

For the Wings:

Dallas has a lot of potential, obviously even more so once they get Sabally back. Brown looks great physically, she’s much leaner and moves better. I’ve always thought Natasha Howard was one of the most underrated players in the league. She makes any team she’s on better.

Arike was pretty cold tonight (although 9-24 is not at all far off from her career averages) but has always had an insane clutch shotmaking ability. I still think Dallas’ success will hinge on her ability to either be more efficient or shoot less when she’s not hitting.

Brown — whoa! Wasn’t familiar with her game at Cal but she was super impressive. I think she has to make the team after that.

All in all, fun game and good intro to the season.
I thought Berger had a rough outing. She made a lot mistakes and looked a step slow. But getting back into game shape is all a part of the preseason!

Do the Fever need to make two or three cuts? If it's two, then I think Saxton has a chance of staying due to lack of depth at the 4/5 spots and Caldwell/Correa are cut. I've also heard that Coach Sides absolutely loves what Saxton brings behinds the scenes as a team player so she has that going for her as well. I agree though that she is looking like she is at the bottom of the pecking order.

I am an Arike fan. But her playing +30 minutes and shooting 6-20 is really silly to me. It's a preseason game.
Just saw the stat line. Yeah that is wild, especially for a preseason game. That many minutes and that many shots. Jeez.

Well this sucks. Immigration paperwork is never a straightforward process. :(

That does suck. You would think that in this day in age, there would a quicker process involved, especially in terms of professional players but given the timing of the college basketball season ending, the WNBA draft, and the training camp pace, it would have been tough to get the paperwork through.

I am glad that we got Courtney Williams here in Minnesota. She is going to be a huge plus for the Lynx. I like Alanna Smith's game. Alissa Pili is going to be a wonderful player in the WNBA. Not her best game. I figure nerves and adjusting to not being that primary option out there, played a part but I hope that she can get some minutes this season.

.-.
Angel Resse had a nice showing. I think Chicago might surprise a lot of people this season.

Any worries of the juxtaposition of the +/- ratings between the starters of CHI vs MIN ? Or not yet as we're still in pre-season, roster tuning mode?

Sure, though I missed where pointing out what Clark did last night has anything to do with Indiana's decisions.

Also, I'm not some random poster.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — More than three hours before Caitlin Clark made her WNBA debut
with the Indiana Fever in a preseason game against the Dallas Wings on Friday night, some fans
among the sellout crowd were lined up outside the arena dressed in No. 22 University of Iowa
jerseys.

The game sold out all 6,251 seats soon after it was announced on Dallas’ schedule, specifically
requested by Wings president and CEO Greg Bibb after Clark declared in February she would
leave college for the WNBA with one year of eligibility remaining. Indiana won the lottery for
this year’s first pick last December.

Other WNBA players welcomed her.

“It’s really great that Caitlin’s bringing all this attention to women’s basketball, so I’m really
grateful for that,” Wings center Kalani Brown said.

Indiana will return to College Park Center [Wings] to play twice during the regular season.
The team plays July 17 in the last game before the WNBA’s nearly monthlong Olympic hiatus

Caitlins next stop after July 17? Hopefully Paris!!!

The W ain't ready but they better get ready.

Crystal D traded to Atlanta for a 3rd round pick. Which is pretty much equivalent to trading for a ham sandwich.

Too bad the Dallas team doesn't have a partnership with the Mavericks, then they could possibly move the regular season matchups with Indiana to American Airlines Center. Or at least maybe they could look into using the arena in Fort Worth which is twice the size of the University Center. They could offset the rental cost with the increase in ticket sales.

We are all random posters.

Think Coach Reeve has some valid points here. Someone streamed the game on their Twitter account and easily had 20 thousand viewers at one point. Don't know if the WNBA provided an explanation but it seems like they're missing early opportunities to cash in on what happened this past NCAAW season.

Atlanta Dream made sure everyone got on the floor today. Whoever was monitoring playing time, mad props. Well done.

The WNBA just two or three steps behind.

She had some other things to say yesterday too

I think the arenas that seat 4,000-6,000 people are no longer going to work in the W. If you want to be a major league team, you can't play in a minor league arena.

I was just thinking about this earlier in the day. I think 10,000 should be the minimum... 10-12,000 is the sweet spot for arena size in my opinion. DC's arena situation is embarrassing. I really have a problem with Atlanta as well. Arena only seats about 5,000 + the location is located right by the Airport making it difficult for fans in Northern Atlanta/Metro to get to any non-weekend game. They played in Ga Tech's arena which seats about 8,500 and its a nice venue in Midtown. Not sure why they stopped playing there.

If we use the Liberty as an example, being relocated to Brooklyn has made a large difference in attendance. The pre-season game in Edmonton had over 16,000 on hand last night. Maybe somewhere in the 10,000 range like @triaddukefan suggested could work.

Just Arike being Arike, sorta like Jewel Loyd, who since Sue retired has turned into Arike Northwest.
Well, it's more than that. The second-best player in the league ran to NY.
