The loss by ND today to unranked WV at home shows just how insane most of the UConn program's winning streaks are. Sure, sooner or later streaks come to an end, but the gaps between UConn losses in most categories is maybe more amazing than we realize. Even when the category is losses in a row, a large number of current UConn students weren't born when the UConn women's program last lost 2 in a row.

I think that 18-year record is one of the more amazing in organized sports. Just think of how many players were involved in keeping that string going!

Where has the Stanford home streak gotten to? It is I think the next longest running streak. Not to start a war with our Stanford posters, but I think the Uconn streak probably includes more ranked teams than does theirs, and the fact that the BE tournament games have all been part of that streak also increases the difficulty.

The last time UConn lost to an unranked opponent was December 21, 2004.

UConn just doesn't lose games it's the prohibitive favorite to win anymore. Since 2/26/05, UConn has lost only one game to a team ranked outside of the top 15, and only twice to a team ranked outside of the top 10.

That's what preparation, precision, and a relentless focus on playing to a standard have wrought.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again here: Geno is a better coach now than he was 10 years ago. And that should be scary as hell for everyone else. He's got a legit top 3 team this year with no superstar, and he's got budding superstars on the roster and headed to Storrs next year. What's going to happen then?

75 Huskies have actually been on the court during the streak, including one player\manager, though as far as I know she never bet on any games while doing it, like Pete Rose.

I think Stanford's home streak was at 74. Did they have 1 or 2 home wins in the last few days? They are at about 76. We are at 99. Miami is third at about 38. Notre Dame and Maryland are tied at 0.

Yes, I think it is astounding. My metric for comparing records across sports and eras is to look at the length relative to the second longest. So while the 90 game streak is impressive, it isn't much longer than the second place at 88. I suspect the no consecutive loss streak my be the most impressive streak in all of sports, but will have to do some research to track down the competitors.

I wasn't sure what the old record was., but if it was 69, then you are correct. The longest home court streaks in NCAA WCBB history are still alive. UConn is just about a full season ahead of Stanford. The current group have done a nice job of extending what Maya et al. built.

Unfortunately, that streak has been officially erased from the record books. The NCAA Squamish Division discover that in years 11-13 of the streak, 2 of the players were found to have used the banned substance Bazooka Bubble Gum because the International Federation of Squamish has found that Bazooka produced too much bounce to the ounce. Dubble Bubble would have been okay, but some guys have to cheat.

I wasn't sure what the old record was., but if it was 69, then you are correct. The longest home court streaks in NCAA WCBB history are still alive. UConn is just about a full season ahead of Stanford. The current group have done a nice job of extending what Maya et al. built.

We have 70 consecutive conference victories and I thought I heard the announcers say during our game yesterday that we were tied with UConn for that streak, or you were one game ahead of us.

On more legit streaky stuff, Phil any idea how many winning streaks the UConn women have ended during GAs reign? I mean streaks of some significance, like over 30 or 40, be it home games, overall wins etc.?

Here are all of the 30+ overall win streaks:

35 games in a row- the entire 1994-95 season. UConn actually lost its season opener (to La Tech) to start the 1995-96 season.

33 games in a row- 1996-97 home opener until the regional finals loss to Tennessee after Shea was injured.

30 games in a row- 2/5/00-1/15/01. Lost by two to Tennessee on 2/5/00, went on to win 17 in a row en route to the NC, and then won the first 13 games of the 2000-01 season before falling to Notre Dame.

70 games in a row- entire 2001-02 season until the loss on 3/11/03 to 'Nova in the BET finals.

90 games in a row- 11/16/08-12/30/10

As evident of ND losing at home yesterday to an unranked team, both UConn and Stanford streaks signify how tough it is win every night when you have a target on your back and opponents bring their A game.
