Will Rizzottis new job spur Shea to take a HC job?

Remember that Geno stated a long time ago that we would not recommend any of his assistants leaving UConn to become a head coach unless it was for a school that played in a conference that would have more than one school making it into the NCAA tournament.

Well of course. Any UConn coach would be eligible for a major job.

Hatchell's career is likely ending soon. Could see Shea being tempted by that - not only is she from NC, but her mom played at UNC in the 70s.

Few people bring up Willnett Crocket in these discussions. She's been on the sidelines for 6-7 years or so, and may be ready to try a job at a smaller school.

Does anyone know what Stacy Hansmeyer is up to? She left Oklahoma a few years back.

Willnett is at Temple with Tonya Cardoza. A quick search of "Stacy Hansmeyer" via Google says she runs Stacy Hansmeyer Elite Girls Basketball Camp. That info is dated March 2014 and may no longer be accurate. Or, she could be singing in nightclubs....she had the voice and the looks. :D

Shea hasn't been to Carolina in 20 years... her roots are in Connecticut.

she even hot-tailed out of Pitt soon as the spot opened

What do you mean "even"...WC's famous saying could have been equally applied to Pittsburgh. Shea is an enigma, wrapped in a mystery and slathered with conundrum sauce.

What HC opening?
There is no current opening that would be remotely appropriate for Shea.
I was talking only about Shea's general plans and any jockeying to be Geno's replacement.
If Shea has any plans, why not just wait for her to announce them. She has addressed this subject on more than one occasion and her answer has remained remarkably consistent. I have never seen a fan base so eager for an Assistant Coach to leave the program. At tOSU we were not pleased when Chris Jent left to take an NBA job and we held our breath every off-season for years because Jeff Boals was such a hot commodity. She has said repeatedly that she's happy at UConn and when she feels it's time to leave and the opportunity is right, she will go. As for Geno's plans, why the rush to get rid of him? He'll go when he feels the time is right as well, hasn't he earned that?

What is the point of a message board on sports if not to speculate?

Show me where I said I was eager for Shea to go or for Geno to retire.

But Geno is going to retire someday, is he not? Are there people who would like to have his job when he does retire? And would those people try to put themselves in the best possible position to get that job?

If one of those statements is wrong, then we can stop speculating on Geno's replacement.

Why do so many think Jen will be the next UCONN Head Coach? Besides who knows how much longer Geno will want to stay at UCONN. If he goes another 5-6 years maybe that would be the perfect time for Taurasi to retire from playing and start coaching. Who knows.

We all love D. She is the best player in the game. But does she want to coach?

And I would caution those who think a great player can be a great coach - most of the time not. It is one thing to have these great basketball skills, its another to be able to transfer/ teach/ coach great skills to another player. Many great players do not have the skills, knowledge or patience to teach.

DT3 has said repeatedly that she has no interest in coaching on any level. I believe her interest would be more on the Broadcast area and she's perfectly suited for that.

Why do you personalize? I said the conversation about Shea's status has been the subject of numerous posts. Useless speculation on a topic that has been conversated to death and addressed ad nauseum by the object of the speculation serves no purpose. I'm sure that when Geno decides to retire, there will be no shortage of qualified candidates to replace him.

1) I was not part of previous discussions on Shea so I have no idea what was or wasnt said.
2) This was a thread entirely driven by NEW events -- namely does Rizzotti's move to GW change Shea's situation.

A decade ago I would have pointed to Jen as the likely successor to Geno, but the stagnant program at Hartford definitely took off some of her luster. Now with GW she maybe gets a chance. Keep in mind that Jen is basically the same age as KO on the men's side, she's not some washed up coach.

As far as Shea, the impression I get is that she's waiting out Geno and wants to go directly to being the next HC here. She likely has the inside track if we want to "keep it in the family".
I agree, and I would like to see Shea as the next head coach. She is a hard worker, has grit, and is all business. If she stays until Geno leaves, why would she NOT deserve the head coaching job?

How soon will Geno retire? 5 years, 10 years. Too long to weight for even an heir apparent. So much can change in that time, so even if there is a current favorite by the Uconn administration, that may change dramatically in the ensuing years.

I'll admit I've never been a huge Shea Ralph fan. I have no idea what she is like in person, but on tv she comes across as too harsh. That's a good thing in an assistant, the head coach needs to be more nuanced. Carla Berube seems to be doing well at Tufts and seems a good example of the kind of person who would have the right personality to be a strong head coach.

A bit too much telling other people what they should post about, cbs.

That
serves no purpose. You can read and write about what you wish while respecting the right of others to do likewise.

Not sure what you're going by, Roger, but if it's her facial expression, IMO when she's concentrating hard (which is most of the time during a game) it looks like a scowl. It's just how she is.

Does anyone think that CD might take over for Geno, at least for a few years? She's 6 years younger and it would be a big salary bump.
