From Paige's very first game during the pandemic season, she had us at hello. She burst on the scene, and like almost every Tom Cruise movie, her immediate success was followed by adversity, but like Steff in All the Right Moves (my personal fav with Lea Thompson) she never quit. And like Mitch McDeere in The Firm, she's never lost our support. She came back for a 5th year because as Joel Goodson in Risky Business roughly stated, the dream is always the same - to win a NC before she leaves UConn. However, in the same way as David Aames in Vanilla Sky, Paige & company do not want to dream any longer. As the last samurai does, you fight for what you believe in and that is why you're here.
This season, Paige has her sidekick beside her, healthy, alongside a full squadron sharing the same need for speed. While there are a number of teams capable of winning the whole thing, it's not a mission impossible. To paraphrase Col Nathan Jessup, UConn needs a 12th NC banner up on the wall.
Yes, our eyes are wide open, and battling for the title will be like a war of the worlds, but the words we want to hear from Paige at the end is, "Mission Accomplished." Restating Ron Kovic's line in Born on the Fourth of July, "we love Paige."
UConn is primed, ready to rock for the ages.
