Will Notre Dame Win This Game??

Oh, I’m not talking about Saturday’s game against us. The Husky faithful know full-well that UConn wins that game.

Notre Dame is undefeated right now, but after Saturday they will have one loss. Then, their next game on Wednesday, the 9th, they play DePaul. Can Notre Dame handle DePaul ball after losing to UConn? It’s been at least five years since Notre Dame has lost two consecutive games.

So, will Notre Dame win this game with DePaul after losing to the Huskies?

Yes they can. ND has been extremely resilient lately, finding ways to win games they should lose (last year in the NCAA semi-final game against South Carolina). Will they? Time will tell. I'd like to see DePaul play the exact type of game (pressure and double team the ball, and hit lots of 3's) against ND that they played against UConn. The only problem is they'll have to do it in South Bend.

Allow me to take a moment to tip my turban to Doug Bruno and the DePaul Women's Basketball Team. He had those young ladies ready to play. I really enjoyed that game. That's the best game I've seen played against UConn since the Dayton game last year in the NCAA tournament. If you recall, Dayton gave the huskies all they wanted, and led by 1 at the half, 40-39.

I ALWAYS want to see the huskies win, but I enjoy a competitive game once in awhile. 40 point blowouts aren't very interesting. There's no suspense. When UConn is up by 20 in the first quarter against an inferior opponent, we all know what the outcome will be. You continue to watch because you want to see how the bench players will perform, because they're going to get lots of minutes.

It'll be very interesting to see if ND can withstand that style of play (causes lots of turnovers), assuming DePaul can successfully replicate similar efforts (with the same intensity and resolve) against the Irish. I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't (keeping in mind those immortal words of then NFL head coach Herman Edwards in reference to why games are played). That's a game I'd watch for 40 minutes, hoping of course ND loses.

What a boon for the Blue Demon program and its fans, if DePaul pulls it off: "We couldn't beat UConn, but we ambushed Notre Dame and knocked them off".
I'm sure UConn Nation would be happy for coach Bruno and his squad, and their fandom. I submit to you a DePaul win against ND would definitely make my day! ;)

And that is the $64,000.00 question.

Huskeynut, you're right, but you're also dating your self (which is ok. there are a lot of us "geezers" in the yard) The original version of that show has been off the air for 57 years. I'm dating myself too because I remember watching it on TV.

Per Wikipedia: The $64,000 Question is an American game show broadcast from 1955 to 1958, which became embroiled in the quiz show scandals of the 1950s. The $64,000 Challenge (1956–1958) was its popular spin-off show.

ND won't have Turner, for sure. Interestingly, ND actually outrebounded Ohio State 45-34 last night and OSU's Shala Cooper nearly had half of the Buckeye's rebounds (15). ND was led by two guards, Maddie Cable (11) and Hannah Huffman (9), both of whom do it with good boxing out and relentlessness. Plus, Cable is quick and has some hops, and Huffman surprisingly strong for a 5'9" guard. This won't help ND against UConn for sure, but should against a long-range shooting team like DePaul.

What's the latest update on Turner? She's my favorite player not wearing a UConn uniform.

Do I really come off as knowing that little? I tossed in Mychal and Arike because it's a team effort to beat the press and they both have good handles. Micheala's lack of athleticism worries me against DePaul's press.

Not at all and my apologies if it seems that I inferred that you didn't. You mentioned that you were at the Depaul game and hadn't seen a lot of the game, so I thought I was merely reporting what happened. That's it... Re: Michaela, I worry more about her athletic ability on the defensive end, but I can see your point. Not so sure about Mychal's handle, but think Arike's AOK, particularly in tight quarters.

BTW, I'm still relatively new to board as a poster and do read/value your insights from South Bend.

I have to agree with the person who said that it depends on whether DePaul stays hot from outside. Against UConn, they were unbelievable. It they do that again, they will be tough against anyone, but I would not be on a repeat, even if I would love to see them do it.

This is kinda fun...ND on ND crime.

Maybe, but can DePaul play at that level again? I guess we'll see.
General logic says Depaul can play at the same level. But Emotional Logic says--many teams "out peter" themselves when they play Uconn. Lessor teams seem to get "pumped" and at times play way above their talent. I think DePaul definitely has the Talent and The Coach. Question is how experienced is ND in playing against 3 point shooters who trap every possession?? Again--WE SHALL SEE!!
Of course this depends upon Uconn not having a DePaul hangover and ND not playing to "out Peter itself"???

My money, which I never seem to have after my daughter visits, is on ND.

No worries. I just meant that I knew who the backup point guards are. I did appreciate the nuggets re how they broke the press because I've yet to closely examine the Ohio State game.

I'll hold my betting money until after the Uconn/ND game. If satisfied I may plunk down my spare .25 piece and go whole hog on DePaul.

All I know is, this thread is making me miss the Big East.

Recently she told me ----No body knows how great you are--to which I replied--yes I DO. She replied --you're NOBODY!! She says those words, pulls the string, and I mouth them. If she keeps this up we'll never make 70 years.

Someone needs a hug.

If DePaul is able to play at the same level as they did against the Huskies, I think they beat Notre Dame.
