Wendy Davis 1991/1992 holds the single season record of 107 Three Point Shots Made. Renee is 2nd with 99 Three Point shots Made.

Will KML Hold the record at the end of this year?

I believe after tonight's game she has made 21. She'll have to average approx 3.5 made three point shots to beat the record. It depends on the number of games UConn plays this year.

How many has she made so far?

That wouldn't be out of her reach. She's really smooth at hitting the 3's.

if UCONN plays in 37 games this year (that's making it to the BET finals and the NCAA elite 8), she could knock down just under 3 per game to get to 110 for the year. she's something else. and it's not just the 3-ball.

I think Kaleena has a chance to exceed the record of 107 threes. In fact, I think she will exceed it multiple times. I would not be surprised to see her break Diana's career record of 318 by 100.

Last year Maggie Lucas had 112 for the season to set a Big Ten record. KML is a much more effective user of screens than Maggie was last year.

I believe she will break the record (between 110-120). But it is really tougher than it seems. To achieve 107 made 3ptrs, Wendy Davis shot an average of 6.9 3ptrs. per game. She made 3.15 per game. She shot a blistering 45.7%. That is smoking from the 3pt line. Kaleena is averaging through the first seven games 8 3pt shots per game while making 3.5 3pt shots per game. She is shooting at a 43.8% clip. In order to break Davis' record in 34 games (same as Davis) Kaleena will have to make an average of 3.2 shots per game. This would give her 109 (round up). Every game after that is cream (35-112, 36-115, 37-118, 38-121). There is another way. Davis jacked up 234 3ptrs. In 2008-09 Renee Montgomery jacked up 260 3ptrs. Since Geno is giving Kaleena the green light to shoot, this may be possibe. If she launches between 250-260 3ptrs, well it is all over but the shouting.
.

I expect Kaleena to shoot 40-45%. As you noted, she appears to have the green light. And why not? She does not force shots.

Though some purists might argue that KML would need to do it in 34 games to break the record, I would not. I hope Kaleena gets 39 games this season. :)

Geno must have a poor memory. Sue Bird should remind him just who was the best 3pt shooting player he ever had on his team. Her career average is 46%. But the best shooter standing 6' tall is not Kaleena, yet. It is Shea Ralph who for her career made field goals at an astounding 58%. Holy moly! Kaleena has a ways to go.

The purists can use shot made per game. Most in a season is just cumulative number irrespective of how many game were played.

Shea will likely remind Kaleena of that daily in practice. ;-)

Alex - correct. I am curious to see if overall in the women's game the % made on threes drops with the line moving out - also curious to see if the number of attempts/game will change.
Two other things to watch with the change in 3 point line:
1. Further for wing/guards to move in for double teams on post players - an extra 1/2 second for the bigs to operate in the paint?
2. Further for a double teamer to get back out and challenge a three - more open three attemps?

Can you verify those numbers? Sue was very good, but was 46% her career number or her high season? Also, the 58% for Shea is all FGs, not just 3-pointers, right?

KML damaged her possible record breaking season when she DIDNT score a 3 against Buffalo or Holy Cross :(

but she did do some damage control when she hit 4-6 against other teams

Shea Ralph

All field goal attempts, all years - 57.9%

Thanks. I really liked Sue's .942 on FTs her senior year. She iced the NC game in San Antonio with 6 in a row, if I recall correctly.

We didn't win in 2001 because Sue shot "only" 43% from the arc. :) Consecutive years of 50%, 43%, and 47%--outstanding! That's the standard for Kaleena to try to match. I know that KML shot 52% for one high school season, but matching Sue's accuracy in college could be tough.

what was Sue's attempts/make numbers each year (or did I miss that already)

Unlike most Boneyarders I deal in facts, not unsubstantiated opinions.:) How can serious UCONN fans be so uninformed?:p Seriously go to the UCONN Women's Basketball Media guide and see page 49. There you will see the following:

Geez, but I loathe the paltry editing features of this new board!

Thanks. I was going by memory w.r.t. Sue. (I've learned that my memory is very fallible.) She was even better than I remembered.

The stat for Shea was a different metric that I just wanted to clarify.

I keep forgetting about the media guide. I should print it as a reference, to assist my memory.

OK! The MOUTH that roared may have finally got it right. Serves me right for doing things too quickly. In any case below are Birdie's and Shea's UCONN career stats. They are quite impressive. I got into UCONN women's basketball to follow our local girl, Ann Strother, and got hooked. So I did not see Bird play. She only played in 8 games in her freshman year. Was she injured or did not play well or just too much talent ahead of her? Did Shea actually ever miss a 2pt shot? Looks like her only misses were 3ptrs. She must have been a slashing driver to the hoop.

Sue tore her ACL. Keirsten Walters, who was rated more highly, was part of the same class, but it was clearly not a PT issue for Sue. Sue sat and observed that year and won the Lieberman Award for the next 3 years--the only 3-time winner.

I'm confident Kaleena will break the single season record for 3's. She's averaging 3 made 3's a game at a .438% clip. From everything Geno has been quoted saying about Baby I can't remember any other Husky ever being given a greener light to shoot than Kaleena.

Like TonyC, I like our chances to go all the way and play another 32 games including the BE title. But dialing that back a few games and projecting us to at least make the Elite 8, we'll play 30 more games. At her current rate it would give her an additional 90 to add to her current 21, for a 111 total.

I anticipate her shooting % will increase as the season progresses.

Yes and barring injury, she'll shatter D's 3 point total. I wouldn't be surprised to see her get 420+ in her career.

Assuming she plays in 150 games I think she could average more.
150 games X 3.0 made 3ptrs/game = 450
150 games X 3.5 made 3ptrs/game = 525
I really think she will average at least 3 made 3ptrs/game for her UCONN career.
