First off, let's thank ESPN for all their effort in conference realignment. After all, without them, we might still have, BC,VT, Pitt,SU, WVU,and Miami still in the League. If the Catholic schools want to break off, let them go. It should of happened back in 2003, but we waited until The Big East has been so completly devalued that now there is no other choice than to dissolve the league. Of course, our former commishioners had no vision,or guts, or balls enough to figure out a way to have the best possible solution for the entire membership. I have to really feel for Mike Aresco, great hire, but bad timing.

What flips me out about this topic was the countdown after the first exodus of teams to the ACC. The axiom was that teams had to be aligned for 5 years to be recognized as a legitimate conference for an autobid to the NCAA hoops tournament. After that 5 year anniversary, the football schools felt no need for a schism. In retrospect, it was a mistake of grandiose proportions.

just toss that onto the Mt Everest sized pile of things that didn't break Uconn's way since 2005. Even things we thought were good at the time have been argued to spell our doom (ie BCS appearance)..

Imagine if somehow, some way, the BB only schools manage to break off on their own in the next 1-2 years and UConn is still in the BE. For years we have ben saying to break off from them because they bring nothing to the table without football. It would be the ultimate F-You to the football schools and would absolutely crush us if that happened. The football conference would be bad and the basketball conference a complete joke. At this point if we can't find a new conferecne we have to hope the BB only schools don't break off because BB would be what the conference will have to hang its hat on.

What it would be the ultimate of is karma. I firmly believe that when people stupidly wish for bad things to happen to them, they increase the odds of the bad things happening. And man on man, did this board wish for bad things to happen to us by losing our hoops arrangements with the Catholics.

CYO just like the old days

>> UConn, in order to keep all options open, is planning to become a Catholic University. This bold move will be announced within a week, and orders have been placed for the necessary equipment and materials. To compete with the ND "touchdown Jesus", the cow college will have a mural on the physical plant smokestack depicting saints Geno and Jim, with arms outraised. The Patagonian Teaching Friars (reformed) have expressed interest in a permanent affiliation. UConn officials are hopeful that their inability to speak English can be overcome. UConn will be renamed after a little known saint, St. Amos Alonzo Dorfman.

Well, seems like it has a much better possibility than anticipated. Herbst pleading to the BB only schools to stay in the conference?!?!? My how the tables have turned and I can only imagine what those conversations must be like. The BB only schools control the vote, can break off and keep their automatic tournament bid and keep the BE name and MSG tourney rights if they dissolve. This is a scary time for UConn.

So then, where will these Catholic schools go? Will they form their own league? What type of value will they have?

So something good is going to happen because of all the bad karma BC and, specifically, Flipper have accrued.

Plenty of bad is happening to BC. They're in the toilet in terms of their programs.

But bad things to BC apparently does not mean good things to us.

Already done deal. This merry-go-round is not benefitting anyone - especially not the fans. The landscape is changing so quickly and with so many different schools does anyone have any idea what one, two, or three years from now what anything will look like. Looks like everyone lossess except for a few fat cat institutions counting their money sacks at everyone elses expense. GREED, GREED, GREED. I must still be so naive to think atletics are just an outlet for students who are being shaped for an education teaching them all of life;s skills, not some gladiators in a ring where people pay hordes of money to see them fight.

All just disgusting. Maybe everyone is better off in DII. It's just all gotten insane. Wish I could go to bed and wake up and see Penn State, BC, and Syracuse in the Big East where they belong - that will always just be a dream - greed, greed, greed.

Not "bad breaks" as much as incompetence at UConn which continues unabated with Herbst and Manuel. No, they are the cause, but they are showing themselves equally incompetent as their predecessors.

I usually see eye to eye with you. You're 100% wrong about this. This was Judgement Day. Those of us who advocated for a split 9 years in order to avoid this day were right. Those who wanted to remain tied to the Catholics got the result that we feared. Your karma is misplaced. We were not the stupid ones.
