Stuck in the house with a torn up knee, I started to think who I would take in the NBA draft if I had first pick...
My thoughts went like this. I couldn't be certain that Wiggins would ever develop a consistent
outside shot, which would force him to become a Scotty Pippen or Dr. J. type player as he also had those types of abilities. At the point I realized that if this guy's downside if Scotty Pippen or Dr. J., he needs to taken with the first pick.

I'd take the Big man first. After that Parker . Parker reminds me of Carmelo. As far as Dr. J and current players that remind me of Dr. J , that has to be Kawhi Leonard. His whole game is Dr.J on steroids

The big man theory is so tough to parse. I get the point in that the upside to having a dominant big man is so huge, especially with the relative lack of them today. But they also bust more easily, at least so it seems. But that's just a non empirical unsubstantiated personal observation. REALLY tough to blow a top pick. Unless you are the Cavs and get the #1 every year.

Wiggins made more threes then Parker

The cavs screwed up tremendously by picking Bennett . Now they have to pick Parker or Wiggins. Bennett is a" project" and they picked him. They can't follow that up by picking a border line project in Embiid who may also have back injurys.

There is a roughly 0% chance they don't take Embiid. There's not even a decision unless the medical report comes back negatively, which it won't. Not sure how you think he's a project.

I find parker to Carmelo comparisons laughable . Carmelo was a great athlete shown by his rebounding numbers, and also a more rounded forward at basically everything . You can't pick Parker over wiggins (embiid clear cut 1), wiggins is a two way impact player. Wiggins can also clearly play small forward . IMO a guy like Vonleh should go higher than Parker

I'm just going by the possibility of back problems and he's only played basketball for four years. That's not a solid and a no brainer decision / pick to me . Especially if you just screwed up with Bennett. Its sketchy to me. JMHO

Bennett I think they did a poor evaluation of his character or background . A guy like embiid , his 'drive' is unquestioned compared to unlv Bennett who would often shoot terrible shots .and the back issue i believe is minor , compare it to what drummond suffered his rookie year.

Fair enough.

I often wonder how good Carmelo could have been if he had a defensive bone in his body.

No chance do they take Parker #1, even Cleveland isn't that dumb.

Wiggins will be a better player than Parker IMO. He's 19, his shot can improve, and as has been pointed out, he already made more 3's than Parker this past season. I think he's a better athlete and will be a better 2 than Parker will be a 3.

It's Embiid. The back is a non issue according to people who have been watching him work out.

Never underestimate the stupidity of an NBA GM and less than stellar owner.

Wiggin's will be able to play both the 2 and the 3 eventually, once he puts on muscle. Kid has higher upside than Parker due to athleticism. I'd def take him over Parker, though Parker is the more polished player as it stands (and I like his intangibles).

Don't let that get in the way of the Cavs ducking that up.

And it's not like they are smokescreening here, as it's the #1 pick. And it's not like they are smokescreening here, as it's the #1 pick.

Someone's going to be real happy if an Andre Drummond situation happened (even if it's only a couple pics).

Kinda funny how the OP makes it sound like Wiggins would have to settle for being Pippen/Dr J type player as both are Hall of Famers.

I thought the same thing, but wasn't astute enough to post it. That sure would suck for Wiggins.

This probably had to do with the fact that Parker was Duke's center compared to Wiggins actually being able to play his 2 or 3 position.

or the other poster saying Leonards game is like Dr J on steroids. I like KL be come on now

I'm taking Wiggins with the #1 pick if I'm Cleveland (but not sure how you determined that Scottie Pippen is his floor, that's ridiculous). I have to wonder if preseason expectations are a factor. Wiggins is perceived as somebody who entered college with near unprecedented hype and underwhelmed, Embiid is viewed as an emerging dark horse who has only played basketball for four years.

I keep hearing about how Wiggins has all these holes in his game - no handle, unreliable jumper, difficulty finishing at the rim, tunnel vision, etc. - and none of these flaws are in the least bit unusual for a 19-year-old kid. In fact, his ability to score 17 points per game despite these weaknesses speak to how high his ceiling is. I wouldn't blame anybody for taking Embiid with the #1 pick, because he's the real deal, but look at this ridiculous step back jumper and tell me this kid isn't going to be a superstar:

If Scottie's his floor, then sign me the hell up. I'm on the Wiggins train!
