That number included charges toward the Ollie decision. We just lost three sports and another became largely self-funded. The AD was charged with reducing the deficit, he is not going to be adding sports at this time. I would love for UConn to sponsor lacrosse. Perfect fit of school and talent in close proximity. The AD is already running a 50 mil deficit, is that really a good excuse?
You forgot to add for any kid whose parent drives a Range Rover and Tesla. I live in Fairfield County and the top Lacrosse athletes also star in soccer and football in the fall. Those same kids can’t scratch the surface in D1 for soccer and football, yet get recruited by Virginia and Duke for lacrosse. That says it all.Spoke with a couple of coaches at FF county schools. They both said "The best athletes in our school play lacrosse." That was over 5 years ago. Probably more so now.
Except…we areExcept, of course, we're not, but other than that, spot on.
(You are not wrong, though, that we are highly unlikely to add more sports in the near term.)
Are we though? From whom have we borrowed money, in what amount and to whom is it owed?Except…we are

Three of the top 17 girls ranked nationally all reside in Darien, including the number 1 girl in the country. There's a national 4* lacrosse recruit living 10 minutes from Storrs, believe it or not.
Yup Big deficit. Subsidized by the state. From the state taxpayers. Owed by the state taxpayers. It’s not imaginary. It’s real. Are we though? From whom have we borrowed money, in what amount and to whom is it owed?
You understand that a deficit and debt is different, right? Because it doesn't seem like you do. You keep talking about money being "owed" apparently by "the taxpayers" based upon your quote above. To whom do you believe that the taxpayers owe this money, and in what amount?Yup Big deficit. Subsidized by the state. From the state taxpayers. Owed by the state taxpayers. It’s not imaginary. They are subsidized by intuitional support which can come from student university fees, out of state tuition waivers for athletes... Some states use lottery revenues. I could not find the sources for UConn's except for student fees which varies. Rutgers AD has debt. $265MM. They borrowed monies from The B1G...Yup Big deficit. Subsidized by the state. It’s understanding of economics like this that got the US $31 trillion in debt. Have you ever considered writing an economics textbook? You understand that a deficit and debt is different, right? As, presumptively, a former writer you really should understand that "words mean things". Debt and deficit are different words with different meanings. It’s understanding of economics like this that got the US $31 trillion in debt. Have you ever considered writing an economics textbook?
Yep, the university athletic department has not earned more than its accounting expenses. That doesn't mean that they had to borrow money for the difference. They are subsidized by intuitional support which can come from student university fees, out of state tuition waivers for athletes... I want to like this because the number one ranked player nationally is from Cheshire, but couldn't bring myself to do it because he committed to Notre Dame. As happened with basketball, I hope we will eventually get to a point where we can keep home the best Connecticut kids. Also the #1 ranked boys player nationally is in Cheshire and committed to Notre Dame.

Cheshire Junior Ranked National No. 1 Boys Lacrosse Player in Class
As the high school lacrosse schedule gets into the heart of the season, the Cheshire boys team is rolling with the best record in Class M. They’ve outscored opponents 91-32 through the first six games of the year. That might seem like destiny with the nation’s number one lacrosse player in the...www.nbcconnecticut.com
Toscano mentioned things will need to be clarified like monies going to CRDA for using the Rent, its parking, concession revenues and the XL. It's confusing the narrative., Also, some ADs' budgets contain costs for facilities maintenance, others do not.Yep, the university athletic department has not earned more than its accounting expenses. Rutgers, on the other hand, has a very substantial debt as you noted. They borrowed money that will need to be repaid. We did not.
A different but related issue is that having a quasi-public entity which owns two of our major venues means that we are paying above the going rate for the use of those facilities, plus, as you pointed out, we don't realize concession and parking revenues at those venues. The end result of that is that a portion of the CDRA's annual losses are being shifted from being reported on their balance sheet to the athletic department. On an accounting basis it makes them look less inept and generates a significant portion of the accounting loss that some people confuse with debt.Toscano mentioned things will need to be clarified like monies going to CRDA for using the Rent, its parking, concession revenues and the XL. The number 1 boys and girls recruits are both in CT. It’s really a joke that we don’t have a team for them.
Probably would have a number of player scholarships and coach positions endowed. by now if we started this when Hathaway was here. The number 1 boys and girls recruits are both in CT. It’s really a joke that we don’t have a team for them.
Yeah. New England is a hotbed for lacrosse. Of course nobody goes to the games. I mean, why would they. Outdoors in February! PC dropped baseball to play lacrosse. They landed, well, no particular talent but they have a team. The baseball team, fwiw, was pretty good. Just because you like a sport doesn’t mean that UConn needs to sponsor it or that enough people care to pay for it. And just because high school kids play it doesn’t mean we will get them or will win. If it did the national championships hip would be Providence-Bryant every year. Some of the best athletes in CT HS's play Lacrosse.
Do you know anything about government accounting except what you hear on Fox News? Do you know anything about the UConn athletic budget? What would you cut from the UConn Athletic budget? From the federal budget? It’s understanding of economics like this that got the US $31 trillion in debt. Have you ever considered writing an economics textbook?

A few hours down I-35 from the US curling hot bed, suspect Iowa State might put up a fight pushing the curler stoneI believe we would be very competitive with our Curling team against those BIG XII teams![]()
