There's a Big East? News to me.
Latest rumor is that the only thing left is to dot the I's and cross the T's. We'll see how this plays out. But the new incarnation is an oddity for certain.

BC won two Big East Tournament titles. DePaul was decent the years before Big East expanded + the Chicago market. That is why I feel BE needs to be careful about who they invite for football. They need schools that have structures in place to maintain longterm success.

I wonder how many Depaul-UConn games got the attention of a young UConn freshman out of Illinois.

Depaul is in because of the Chicago market.

Excellent point, because I think this was the first time this season that a mid-major beat a Big East team. Oh wait....

Depaul does have wins over ASU and Texas Tech, and lost to a good Minnesota team by 1 and okay Mississippi team by 2. They are a year away from being really competitive, but I would expect them to win 6-8 in the Big East this year.

DePaul also joined BE with a lengthy pettigree and legacy going back years. My guess is that upon application to BE or any conference, a commitment to certain expenditures and emphasis is required so all are theoretically capable of 1) winning occasionally and 2) sustaining a healthy sports program. I suspect DePaul did make such commitment and probably intends to continue. It just takes some a longer time than others (see St. John's).

We needed a BCU look alike.
LOL! For a serious answer, because they once were a hoops power and to get the Chicago market. Oh, and I didn't realize they are a Catholic University, which has always been a strong part of the BE. I didn't realize that till I looked them up. Does anyone know if the name DePaul has to do with Paul the Apostle? If that's not the case, me thinks I look a little stupid for thinking that.

The problem with the above ill fated decision to add them to the BE is they s*cked for years before they joined the BE. they still s*ck and will likely continue to s*ck for the foreseeable future..

Just because a school is in or near a big hoops talent pool doesn't mean they're going to get that talent. Just as SJU fans. Since Coach Sweater left, they've struggled to recruit NYC. It's interesting how certain coaches have a history of recruiting NYC, but that's a whole other topic. JC has cherry picked a few from the Apple and it's surrounding areas over the years. Getting back to DePaul, they had Ryan Boatright in their backyard but he's our budding star PG.

I say we trade DePaul for say, Xavier.

One might raise the same question about St Johns...who have lost to such powers as Northeastern, a CAA also ran, and Detroit-Mercy a Horizon also ran...

The bottom of the BE looks worse this season than last. At least we don't have BCU.

DePaul is named after St Vincent DePaul, the founder of the Vicentian order which is the order that founded DePaul. He was a 17th Century French priest known for his work with the poor and galley slaves. The Vincentians also run St Johns and Niagara I believe.

I watched the double header- St.Johns-Detroit and DePaul-Mil a waste of 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back. Just when I thought that no one could be worse than ND this year, along comes these two stinkers, and the realization that the BE is now 2-2 with the Horizon! Oy Vey!

Gonna be a tough year for the Big East. There are more bad teams than there have been in a while and most of the good ones aren't quite as good. And it is still distictly possible in my mind that Syracuse could be totally demoralized as the Bernie Fine situation goes on.
