Why Geno Auriemma Should Move On From UConn

Amusing, NOT. What a put down for Grams and Gramps who enjoy the game. Back to the cave, Javaman.

I hate to say this. I hate to bring up a touchy subject, something that the lovely grandmas and grandpas who love the UConn women will get mad at me for, something that half-asleep Huskies fans might actually have to read all the way to the end.

But I feel like it’s the only thing to say after UConn’s 66-54 outclassing of No. 2 South Carolina in Columbia on Monday night, a game in which the Huskies led by as many as 21 points and never trailed.

It’s the only logical conclusion to reach after watching this team build a modern-day Roman Empire in women’s college basketball, treating other, even elite programs like Iberia.

It’s time for Geno Auriemma to move on from UConn.

It’s time for him to try men’s college basketball, the NBA, the WNBA, hockey, curling, something else.

The man is too...

Hey, JavaMan, you certainly have the right to your opinion BUT regarding your comments about quote, "lovely grandmas and grandpas who love the Uconn women will get mad at me for something that half-asleep Huskies fans might actually have to read all the to the end." YOU ARE RUDE..

Java was just quoting the article. Don't hang the messenger.

Well LouS and nan linds, maybe Javaman deserves a little heat on this because he was not clear in his quoting of the linked article by Kels Dayton but Javaman did not say these things. The article author Kels Dayton did. Your scorn belongs targeted at Mr. Dayton.

Sorry Javaman for suggesting you return to cave. Had no idea the lead comments you posted were not your words, your opinion as it certainly seemed so.

I hope we don't make fun off-limits on the Boneyard. Winning and fun seem to me to be a coveted combination. BTW, I haven't seen any challenge or mention of it here, but I seriously doubt Geno really carries 5 cell phones.

He could carry 5 cell phones. I know he carries ten rings. I saw it on TV. Any guesses where he might carry an eleventh?

That may be true but we do know that even if he has 5 cell phones her still won't be able to get them out of his pocket. ;)

Um, that LOOKS like an SNY interview, but is in fact the commercial.for UConn. NOT a real interview.

Oh Snap! I would never, never, never, have guessed THAT. I really appreciate the correction. Really, really, really, really, really... Etcetera.

I thought that perhaps my intentional misspelling of a three-letter word might substitute for the ubiquitous smiley emoticon. As so often happens, I was wrong.

Geno actually has feet of clay --he is human after all. Some teams (USC, ND, Duke, Baylor, etc) think of him as not God but Satan. His every word is not always the truth or spot on in every subject. I doubt he even believed Einsteins theory on Black holes.
He has done it all, if Uconn win's 4 in a row (the impossible will then happen), not a record in WBB that he and his teams have not destroyed.
He, after Brazil, will own more WBB Olympic rings as head coach than any of his previous Coaches.
What has he left to accomplish? Money? He and his family could live to the age of 3301 before his finances are gone--without ever working another day for pay.
For the good of the Sport --and break the hearts of hundreds of thousands Uconn fans--he should retire to his hill top in Italy..and drink Turazi wine

The idea of College sport, initially, was to engender community togetherness and pride ---while doing so everyone--athletes included--have one heck of a good time.
Some have forgotten this concept. I wonder how an Agg school in the cow pastures lost in the deep woods around Storrs could every forget their roots---
The old Field house was FUN---I loved Thompson screaming while playing URI--Jam the Rams--and the whole house cheered and giggled for 10 minutes ---I'm still giggling.

As for the cited article:

"Too clever by half."
;)

At least the got rid of Noah Finz but not certain that per se improved anything.

For some reason WTNH seems like a newspaper with a seriously bad circulation trend (God forbid they should look at improving the product).

Yes! I guess Finz is back in Southern California selling used cars again. THANK GOD!!! WTNH spends all that reporting time on high school sports and can't devote 30 seconds to giving the latest UCONN WCBB scores. I only watch that ragtag bunch is because they give much better weather info to us down here on the shoreline.

An amusing diversion, but here is a dead serious guess:
Geno could take over any top ten women's college BB team and make them dominant in 3 years.
but........Why would he do that?? He is smart enough to know an absolute truth: stress will shorten your life.

What he should be doing in the future is coasting on his laurels and staying with UCONN until he no longer enjoys it or until he reaches some unspoken goal (maybe that goal is to help guide and turn out as many special human beings as possible).
