Go back to 2011. Pre-season. All the posts about P taking Uconn to the next level after RE. Sunshine and roses. Anyone remember these threads and articles?

By week two there were questions about P but man were people excited. Kind of like now. I just hope no one ends up feeling like Clark Griswold (I know that is how I have felt after some games and season openers with high expectations):

So many bad memories, so much expectation.

What's with all the negativity? The past is the past. New coach, new staff. Time to turn a corner, turn a page in UConn football history. Got my fingers crossed that Diaco is the real deal and good things are about to happen to a group of kids that sorely deserve it.

What sportsart's avatar said. *facepalm*

Let's let them play a game first, huh?

Why would you post this?

I am in the wait and see camp on this coach and this team. I want to see them succeed, I hope things have changed but have been way too over excited about change and new seasons too many times only to need an explanation about WTF I just watched on the field. I'm just tired of getting suckered in by the promise of a new season and a new coach. Come game time, I will probably feel just like I did last year, and the year before, and the year before, etc. Over the top optimistic. And if Uconn scores first, no brakes on my feelings at all. Maybe this year will be different after all but my nuts still hurt from last year.

Nice. Come to the pool party and take a dump in the pool.

And then you wonder why people don't invite you more...

Burn this thread to the frcuking ground!

There's a football game to be played on Friday and we don't need no stinking energy vampires!

I know. Your real name is Eeyore!

How in the world did you have any expectations of success last year?

I took a wait and see approach in 2011, but nothing...NO THING WHATSOEVER...can be as bad as what occurred over the last 36 games.

Coach Diaco has said all the right things and the team has said and done all the right things. Not only that, but he has backed it up with action. He's dismissed players from the team who presumably weren't picking up what he was putting down. He hired one of the best S&C Coaches from the SEC and he's gotten his players to buy into it. Give him a chance to prove it on the field. He has yet to have a single opportunity in a game, but so far so good.

Here's the difference to me:

Even though I took a wait and see approach, I never really got that feeling that, whoever it was, they believed a word they were saying between January 2011 and September 2013. I believe Diaco believes every word he says.

From a linked article in the OP:

"I know he has a lot of pride," said DeLeone, a 1970 UConn graduate. "And I think it's obvious that what happened at Syracuse was A) the wrong decision; and B), a guy like this deserved better. He's a great man and he deserved better. With that said, I will always respect [outgoing athletic director] Jeff Hathaway for what he did because this is the absolute right hire here, absolute right hire, couldn't be any better. Number one, he's from Connecticut. Numbers two, he can walk into any high school in the East and doesn't have to introduce himself to anybody. Everyone knows him. Number three, this is a program where we have to develop players and there's nobody better at developing players than Coach P, so I think it's a great fit."

Now, burn this thread with FIRE.

Hang him ... Hang him ...

We need NNNNEEEDD MoJo. Where's Deepster?

I know. Even when Dom Perno was coaching hoop, I began the year thinking that if things broke right we could have a good year. I'm expecting a bowl bid this season.
Well he did have Corny and Mike McKay 78-82 and added Chuck Aleksinas so there was plenty of reason to hope. Sometimes I wonder what Jim Calhoun would have done with that team. The talent was there.

No doubt, that was a good team. I'm talking about that stretch where Perno only recruited guys named Terry.

If you can't find a good noose for this goose, then fire up the old Boneyard wood chipper!

Maybe this year will be different after all but my nuts still hurt from last year.

Oh fer crissakes, ice 'em up and get back out there.
