HFD. Are you really proposing that UConn market one game to Maryland 'fans'. So spend a bunch of money so that Maryland fans come to one UConn game?

That's an easy sell: Hey Maryland fans, your team has been 6-16 the past 2 years. They are in a league with Boston College, but you better drive from Boston to Hartford for this rare opportunity to see greatness.

Seriously do you think television advertising makes Maryland's record the last two years go away? If you sold another 5,000 tickets to Maryland fans you grossed maybe $175,000. Why would anyone invest resources in that - maybe if you spend a ton you can gross a small amount.

All in the end to have more visiting fans in you stadium? Yeah that will make things better.

-the area has tons of md alumnus
-they have been bad but its obvious RE is recruiting and turning the corner. Last year injuries killed them.
- this is there last year in the acc. They play bc at home. This is the chance for a short drive for any New England alums. No New England teams in the b10. Last chance for them otherwise its a Rutgers road trip. It's a great stick to sell to md fans in New England. Surprised u couldn't put this together...

You are right I did forget Maryland was leaving the ACC, I did know that they play this year in College Park.

You still haven't told me the goal. How many tickets can you sell Maryland alumni and how much would you need o spend to do it. And really is that worth filling up your stadium with fans of the opponent? What are we the Devil Rays? Somehow having Maryland fans at our stadium makes us more attractive to another league? That makes no sense at all.

What is your budget? Who has to approve this strategy? What is the total number of MD in the area? What defines "the area"? CT, NJ, MA, NY, RI? How many of those MD alums do you project to reach with the advertising? What is the ROI? Do you want to promote to the opposing team?

These are just SOME of the basic questions you would have to answer to in real life.

I thought u were just complaining that we were tight on money? Fill up 45k with 8k terps fans. That's some nice extra money for some new marketing if u ask me. It also pisses off the home crowd a bit and maybe more people start wearing blue. It also shows the b10 its best and worst programs in the east have 50k+ potential immediately at uconn if they expand which they easily can.

I don't have numbers in front of me. I would love to tho. Very simply, there should be a commercial with our schedule and those football helmets should be obvious. Uconn should be in touch with md alum center and give them a section at the rent, the expanded bleachers. Work something out with them and get them filled.

Area is NYC and ne with a focus on fc and wc for NYC and a focus on Boston-Wooster for mass.

I saw a bc-md bball game back n like 06 I want to say. Maybe 07. There was 4k there maybe and sip was in the building. Half of the crowd was md. Alums for md are in the area. Someone in our ad who has the numbers/tools to make it happen should. If I was the ad I would. It's worth the 2 hours of work to explore making that much extra money IMO.

I'm sure Maryland has already been marketing the game through their alumni network. UConn spending money to reach that same audience in a far less efficient manner is not a wise investment.

Or......maybe someone with the actual numbers and data did the analysis and it was deemed an unwise investment. Just a possibility.

But that would undermine the conclusion that UConn's athletic department is run by morons, so we won't consider that possibility. Lalalalalalalacan'thearyou

Buddy if you spend $500k to maybe sell $280k in tickets you don't accomplish too much.

The idea you can sell an incremental 8k in tickets is absurd. Maryland can't sell tickets in Maryland, but you can sell Maryland tickets here?

Maryland's "alum center" already has a batch of seats commonly referred to as the visitor's sections. Have they filled them? Asked for more?

Maryland -BC have played before acres of empty seats during their last two games in Chestnut Hill, including the 2010 game featuring a 4-2 Terrapin team so quality is not an excuse for Maryland's poor traveling. I'd rather see UConn work on developing its own fan base than spend money targeting fans of another school.

The same really should be said for Rutgers also. I know we have a visitor section. But that was nt enough for Michigan. Rutgers and Maryland should fill there sections. We should encourage that somehow. I would love to see 10k yellow in the stands this fall. Maybe it will wake someone here up.

Why "should" they fill their sections? There is no comparison between Michigan, a huge school with a 50+ year tradition of football excellence, and Maryland/RU. A great way to waste money is trying to spend it doing what other schools haven't been able to do - turn their alums into ticket buying fans. UConn should focus on creating its own ticket buying fans rather than solving other schools' problems.

I can't believe I just read that...wait...no...I can't believe you wrote it!!!

No. We should encourage home field advantage. We should encourage home fan attendance. You are correct that advertising should be happening tenfold in Fairfield, but target UConn alums.

As a Redskins fan it is disheartening a few years back to see so many Steelers fans at FedEx Field on a Monday night. They should have just made it easier on them and played at Hienz.

UConn's home stadium should not go out of its way to accomodate opposing fans, which is exactly what you are advocating with the verbal diarhea above as well as playing "big" home games at Gillette, The Meadowlands, or Yankee Stadium.

I was going to say earlier that is a DD thing. Uconn probably wouldn't have any say in what store gets what inventory.

I'm sure that's true but we could have some influence if we tried hard enough. I'll be sure to ask next time I'm in one what the deal is. Everyone should. It costs you so little for so much exposure. They should buy them and give them to every Firehouse and PD in the state esp in Ffd County with the sched and phone # and a DD discount.

I asked in my normal stop (who has them) - many franchise owners decide to use up their current stock first as there is no specific time restriction to use the special logo'd cups (i.e. baseball versus football season, month specific event, etc...). Someone mentioned they got one in Newington but not Fairfield - I got one on BRT two days ago but it was a hot cup? The rest stop in North Haven on Wilbur Cross Northbound has them as well.
