One recruit doesn't really make a class. And I consider Purvis more of a gift than a recruit. He was meant to go to UConn from the start and committed here virtually the day after he left NCST.
Amen. He wanted to come to UConn 2 years ago. The credit in my opinion goes to JC and what his staff did then. Other than him, this staff has one big time recruit to hang its hat on. Things could still fall our way in several instances but things are what they are so let's go a bit easy with the rose colored glasses shall we?

Lol oh so all credit goes to JC and his staff? Who the heck do you think it was on JC's staff who recruited big fish like Purvis? And did Purvis transfer to Uconn under the pretense that Calhoun was still the head coach? He must be so disappointed.

KO was a part of that staff but you don't think Jim Calhoun was a significant factor in RP's considerable interest in UConn? KO deserves credit for sure in getting RP to come here but given how quickly Purvis reached his decision after announcing his transfer tells us where his heart was all along. Our staff wasn't even allowed to talk to him while he was making his final decision to leave. It's just naive to conclude it was a fully open recruitment that netted another five star recruit. Let's say 1.5 to be fair.

Seriously, Purvis is a transfer & a nice get. He's 2 years removed from being a recruit & being a McD's All American. There's a big difference between being a recruit and being a transfer. Different rules apply. Obviously, Purvis wished he came to UConn out of high school, but he did not, so he's not a recruit for the 2014-2015 season. He's also already enrolled at UConn & his recruitment was 2 years ago. At the end of the day, UConn has 1 recruit coming to UConn for the 2014-2015 season, in D.Hamilton (who is awesome). Most of UConn's prime recruiting targets this recruiting season have committed elsewhere. With room for 4 guaranteed commitments, I'm surprised we haven't nailed at least one other top commitment with Ollie's efforts this summer. A lot of the top 100 recruits have already committed already. Many of the Top of the Top (ie 5 Star) don't have UConn on their finalist list, save D.Robinson and Oubre (who seems to be a pipe dream).... Lyle would be a great get and if Alexander would be open to UConn's advances, that would be great too. At the end of the day, UConn has holes to fill after this next season (4-6 players), so recruiting is too important to say "next" every time an excellent recruit goes elsewhere. That's my take. We need players after this season... good players!

Regardless, Purvis is a Husky. And if history repeats itself (which it does), Abu will be here in 20 minutes.

If you think great players we do get don't count because of some arbitrary caveat ("well, he's a transfer" or "he was a spring signing with few options" or "he grew up in Connecticut" or "he would have gone to Duke if they offered"), well, that's like saying the 2011 title doesn't really count since we beat a mid-major in the finals.

They still put up a banner in 2011. And in 2014-15, Purvis will be playing heavy minutes for us and his buckets will count for 2 points. Unless, of course, he is beyond the line when he shoots.
