I was wondering, since it's off-season, who people think will either be the biggest surprise, or will have made the most improvements over the summer? i did not include Bria or KML because they have been pretty sensational, nor Heather or Lauren since they probably won't see much PT outside of end of game situations, so i included them all in "other"...

I went with Stokes as well - I expect good things from all the freshman. I think Stokes 'jump' from year 1 to year 2 will be the biggest. I think (health permitting) that CD will also be a bigger contributor - she has not had a proper off-season since she has been at Uconn, so the chance to get past her injuries will be big.

I said Banks - only because she seems to have all the tools but seemed a step slow (behind) last year. i think she may have the most room for dramatic improvement. but we will see. Stokes would have been my 2nd choice.

My vote went to Brianna Banks mainly because I felt she is more likely to be a bigger surprise then Kiah Stokes who was my second choice.

I'm waiting for Stokes to have her AHA! moment. I think she's shown that the talent is there. I just hope she doesn't wait until mid way through her jr year.

Banks is another possibility. If she "gets it" she'll be a big contributor.

Assuming Kiah has no lingering issues from her surgery, she and Stef will be as good a 1-2 punch at the 5 as there is in the country. Obviously, I'd rather have baylor's situation at center, but in terms of having a really quality backup center, I expect UConn to have one. That's a great luxury to have in the event of injury or foul trouble.

Kiah and Brianna for me too. I think BOTH could be big contributors next season and in a major way. The UCONN defense could come at you in waves next season.

As far as the 3 incoming freshman are concerned, I will not be surprised by anything they do. They will be fantastic and it will be evident ( I hope).

Go UCONN!

I agree that Morgan may the surprise of the freshmen. She appears to be solid all around and plays hard and smart. You won't notice her much, but she'll have 12 and 6 in the box score often.

On the other hand, Breanna will do things that no one ever has. Yes, she has the hype, but until we actually see it game after game, we may not fully be believers. Something like all those "wow" moments from Maya.

Speaking of "wow," when Moriah goes coast to coast running by the entire team, then hits a step-back three, and then knifes into the lane for a layup, on consecutive possessions, we'll be speechless.

I think Kiah could be on the verge of being one of the best players in the nation. If she keeps her work ethic up and plays with confidence, she will be a real force.

Brianna has more room to improve than Kiah at this point. I think she has a WNBA body and athleticism. If she learns and improves, she could be really good. I know Geno sees her immense potential.

This is probably wishful thinking, but here's my contrarian and surprise pick: Caroline. My hope is that further rehab and conditioning will get her back closer to the player she was in 2010. Some of us expect her to limp through the season, play limited minutes, and have less than a huge impact. She has a huge heart. If the knee cooperates, she'll be a full-time impact player.

Contrarian pick #2: Kelly. The person who played as if she was possessed in the closing minutes of the ND game and also in the one of the other NCAA games will be an effective offensive threat and a one-player demolition unit on defense. She will take over games, more on defense than offense, in a way like Maya. It's Kelly's senior year. She will not defer to anyone. Look out!

I say Morgan, just because the other two incoming freshman haev gotten so much more press.
I was going to vote for Morgan for the reason you gave plus she is that good! Many may not realize she was at one time rated #1 in the 2012 class<prior to her injury while being chosen along with Breanna for the USA 16 team! She has come back to make the USA 19 gold medal team and has just made the USA 18 team. She had an incredible SR season,MCD AA,1st team AA,and is going to be an integral part of this coming season and the following 3 years! She is not a project, but along with Bree and Mo will get major minutes as KML did this past season.
Inspite of all that I have said,I think Kiah is going to take it to another level this coming season!

The big star will be team chemistry. Geno and the staff will mould this most outstanding collection of talent into a smart, relentless, bunch of assassins.

I think it will be Heather or Kelly. I think Kelly will turn into a scorer and Heather will be greatly improved both on offense and defense. Would it really be surprising if the others mentioned excel?

I voted for Kelly, maybe because I hope she gets her shooting act together for her senior year. Wouldn't that be something?

It would be great if Kelly became a scorer! Wonder if she gets sick of reading "glue" player and "does all the little things" about herself.....

My thoughts:

Biggest surprise: Bria Hartley. I think you will see Hartley take the mantle of team leader and become a devastating playmaker (on a consistent basis). I would say she could average 16 points and 6 assists per game.

At times, last year, it seemed as if UConn was not sure who the leader on the court was. Several players took the honor of "best player" throughout the season, as it was truly a team effort without any one superstar. I think Kelly Faris emerged as a mentor and a calming presence for the younger players, who was steady and did several things to help her team win (even though they do not show up on a stat sheet). But this is the year I think Bria Hartley takes over as team leader and becomes the floor general the way Renee Montgomery did in her last two years.

I wouldn't say it would be a surprise if Bria did that, however. She has been improving steadily towards that for two seasons. Those numbers aren't far off from what she averaged this year, and she had huge games against Baylor, Stanford, and ND. Plus she won All-American in one poll. I think that what you're describing is more what the fans and coaches expect from her next season.

I'm wondering if the label as a "glue" player will stick. :D

Chemistry can't be taught. You either have it or you don't.

My question is this. How can anyone on a UCONN scholarship be a surprise? Maybe I have a different definition of "surprise."Tuck would hardly be a surprise as part nod the top ranked recruiting class. Banks and Buck have the most room for improvement.
